Indonesian Navy to take delivery of new LPD
Tuesday, 28 April 2009 01:56

The Indonesian Navy is soon to take delivery of the first of two PT Pal-built Makassar-class landing platform docks (LPDs).

Designed by South Korea’s Daesun Shipbuilding & Engineering, the four Makassar-class LPDs were based on the earlier Tanjung Dalpele-class.

‘KRI Makassar’ and ‘KRI Surabaya’ were built in Busan, Korea, and commissioned in April 2007 and August 2007, respectively.

The contracts for the third and fourth LPDs, which are currently being built by PT Pal, Indonesia, were signed in March 2005. These two units have been modified to act as flag ships with command and control systems.
