Hello everyone, I used to post here a few years back but havnt been here since then so I will re-introduce myself. Im 19 and a half years old living in Edmonton and
I meet all the requirements to join the CF as far as I know. I have my grade 12 high school diploma, Canadian citizen, ect. I have a brother in the infantry and my mother served as a medic when she was younger. About a year ago I had an application in with the CF recruitment center here in Edmonton and completed everything except my physical, I just lost intrest as I was still in high school and still young. I passed my medical, the aptitude test, the interveiw but just didnt do my physical but I meet the requirements for that with ease. Ive called the recruitment office and my application is still on record and its still good. To join up I just have to redo my medical, apt test and interview... I did some research and found the physical is done at basic training now.
Ive been intrested in the army since I was little, in high school I wanted to join the reserves but now I want to join the regular force. I want to go in as infantry, or possibly something along the lines of a medic although I didnt see "Medic, Combat Medic, or Med Tech" anywhere on the CF career browser on their website. I am 100% confident in myself and my ability to suceed in the CF, I work out 5 days a week, I have always played team sports and I work well with others. I get along with everyone I meet and I feel the need to serve my country. Ive been working full time for the past year to afford a new truck, and when I see our boys over in Afghanistan risking their lives I want to join up and help.
Up until a few months ago I was quite confident that I could get into the CF no problems seeing as I passed all the tests. Now a problem has arrisen. I was recently at a hotel party with a bunch of my close friends and a few people I dont know. This hotel is in the mall here, we were all drinking and quite drunk. After coming back from the casino some guys ripped a few decorative figures off of a sign in the west edmonton mall sea live caverns sign. They just looked like painted styrofoam sea turtles and sea horses to me and everyone else but apparently they are casted in cement and worth $20,000 combined. We were drunk, I did not take anything down or back to the hotel room but 3 sea horses wound up in my backpack. Everything was returned and not broken, the room was in perfect condition 1 drinking glass was broken thats it. I was called to the police station with a few of my friends and I got charged with possesion of stolen property under $5000. A few weeks later I found out I was also charged with theft under $5000. This is a first time offense for me, as harmless as it seemed it was stupid, I didnt even put the items in my backpack but I got screwed for it. I have a lawyer ive been to court once and I go back in 3 weeks to resolve it. I can fight the theft charge and win... I was yelling at my friends to leave the items behind I wasnt encouraging the theft and just being present isnt enough to be guility. The possesion charge I can possibly fight becasue I was drunk and didnt know the items were in my backpack. The whole situation was blown out of proporton all of our lawyers, parents, friends agree. My police officer neighbour said the cop has only been a cop for 1 year and should never have interogated us or arrested us for that, he even dug up video survellience and fingerprints.
The crown has offered me a condition discharge.... that means there is no conviction... I plead guilty and get probation for 6 months and 30 hrs of community service. I technically dont have a conviction/crimal record but it does show a record of the condiction discharge, after 5 years it is wiped completly from my record. My lawyer is fighting for "Alternative Measures", the conditional dischrage is a worst case outcome. With alternative measures since it was a stupid drunken first time offense I get no record at all just 30 hrs community service. I called a recruiter and they said as long ast he crime was minor and the punishment is completed it shouldnt be a problem but she didnt sound confident. Im just wondering if this compeltly screws me over or if I still have a chance.
