Hello I have been searching around the forums and there seems to be a long waiting list for infantry and I was wondering if I should enlist now to get my name in or wait till later next year because I am going to college this September.

If you feel you're ready to apply, regardless of probable duration of the hiring process, then you should apply IMO. If you're not sure if you're ready or questioning what will actually make you ready, you'll find a lot of useful information and tips in The Recruiting Office forum. Good luck!

Edit: typo

I'm guessing your looking at reserves since your starting school. If so go on down to your nearest infantry reserve unit and put in an application. Wait times can be very different for regular force and reserves.

Joining the military for any trade isn't just finish everything and then wait in line behind the last person who just finished their application for the same trades.

You are merit listed at the end of the application process (CFAT, Medical, Interview, Background Check, Screening Ect...)

The merit list is based on how competitive you really are as opposed to others on the list.

I really feel like the merit list isn't talked about enough on this forum. Doesn't matter how many people are applying or have applied to the infantry because you could be the 100th person to apply but if you have everything the army is looking for in a soldier then you could be first on the list.
