I have been mulling over this idea for quite some time now, but before I decide to make an attempt to put put the wheels in motion, I figured what better place to get some input than right here.
I want to start by saying that my idea was born of an absolute need to show my appreciation to those who serve, and to honor those who have paid the ultimate price in their current operations in Afghanistan. Also, to help educate those Canadian citizens who  may question or oppose our presence there.
My idea is to try to create a film about the participation of the Canadian Forces in Afghanistan.
Although there were and are numerous operatins that deserve recognition,  I can think of one that shows the combination of the leadership, skills and tenacity that are synonymous with the Canadian Forces. I am referring to "OP Medusa", which took place in September of 2006. This was the first Canadian planned and led offensive operation since the Korean war, and with the help of the United States, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Denmark and Afghan militaries was considered a success. However, despite the success the operation, a total of 28 coalition soldiers lost their lives, 12 of which were Canadian.
I will avoid this turning into a history lesson as I am sure most of you know the series of events that transpired between Sept.2nd-Sept.17th 2006 (into mid October), and maybe some of you had even  participated.
Again, the end product would be meant  to educate, not only the Canadian public, but hopefully even beyond our borders. To bring to light what it is that the CF are capable of, but more, why they do it. I want to show why it is so many men and women wear that uniform, and why so many, including those  of us on this forum, WANT to wear that uniform. But mostly, it is to pay homage to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
So as the title of the post states, please, share your thoughts and opinions, they are very much welcomed and appreciated.

I though OP ZARAH was, in July 06?  Heck, we even helped 3 Para get sorted out on the ground...  ???

As long as you get Eric Bana in on it, I think you're good to go.

I'm not sure we need another documentary that will show on the History Channel at 2:00 am.

How about a good drama (i.e. historical fiction) or action flick that actually shows Canadian soldiers, sailors, etc accurately as opposed to half-baked made-for-TV video-taped crap that looks like they didn't even talk to a soldier, let alone get some expert advice.

Paul Gross' Passchendaele was an improvement, but we need more.

Not quite squarely on point, but have you ever seen Lifeline to Victory?

Lol, I may be able to swing that. the question is, what part would he be best suited for?

Well, that was the idea, to avoid the whole documentary aspect of it but base it on actual events but in a 'feature film' (for lack of a better word) kind of method. As I mentioned, it's still in the thought process, and I would definitely approach those who were involved to achieve complete accuracy in the events. Also, I would approach the families of those who were lost, I would absolutly ask their blessings in recreating such a tragic time in their life, I wouldn't dare step on anyones toes.

As far as "Passchendale", I'm pretty sure they touched on WWI events somewhere in and amongst the love story  ::). Mr.Gross was actually one of the people I was going to approach with the idea.

It would definitely include the back stories to those involved, how the whole thing came to fruition and the events that took place prior to and during those two weeks.
The finer details still need to be worked out though, so it's still a very rough idea.

Will there be Ninjas in the story?  You gotta have Ninjas, they truly make the story.

Or better yet, girls with bikinis.  Tons, of them.  Really emphasize the part about the decompression, and turn it into one of those late 70's/80s frat boy kind of things.  Something along the lines of Porky's.

Well, either Col Omer Lavoie or me.  I wasn't there though, so you'll have to use some artistic license to get me into the battlefield....

Lol, I think the only ones wearing pajamas were the insurgents, as far as their knowledge of the martial arts go...well, let's just say I wouldn't bet on them if they were face to face with Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee (if he were still alive)
As for the bikini idea, I don't think either side had those as regulation "battle rattle". I'll definitely see if I can sneak it in there though.

On the other hand, if you make a movie about Medak Pocket, that was in Croatia and Croatia was Eastern Europe's playground with plenty of beaches!  Eastern European girls in bikinis!
