Salut à tout les franco canadiens, vous l’aurez deviner je vis à Montréal depuis 9 ans et 2 jours, j’adore cette ville, je me suis habitué au Québec, j’aime beaucoup la province, je suis arrivé à l’âge de 11 ans, j’ai grandi ici et j’ai vraiment aimé sa, mon rêve est de devenir
Policier fédérale (GRC) et je me demande si c’est possible de retourner au Québéc pour exercer ce métier, je sais qu’il faut 2 ou 3 années d’experience en tant que policier régulier dans un détachement au Canada mais est ce que après un certain moment je peux retrourner au Québec et rester ici pour travailler ? Je veux rentrer en tant que policier fédérale et me spécialisé dans quelque chose en rapport avec les crimes, j’en ai vu une policière fédérale à côté de chez et franchement c’est la classe que sa soit dans les habits ou dans le charisme!

Écoute, j'habite à St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, et le quartier où j'habite, nous somme plein de gens qui travaillons
pour le Gouvernement fédéral (militaire, douanier, grc)
Et j'ai quelque voisins québécois qui travail à la GRC et qui sont revenu ici après avoir fait leur purgatoire
dans un village au Yukon, dans le fin fond de l'ouest ou au Nunavut.

Your odds of getting posted to Quebec by the RCMP right out of training are very slim. You should expect to do six or eight years somewhere like BC or the Prairies first. That’s where most Mounties are, and there are a lot of Quebecois RCMP members who are trying to get posted back home. If you join the RCMP, assume it may be a decade or more before you’re back in Quebec. Less than 5% of police officers in the RCMP are posted in Quebec.

The RCMP in Quebec fill a number of roles: border patrol, federal serious and organized crime investigations, national security investigations, some VIP protection duties, stuff like that. A Mountie in Quebec would *not* be answering 911 calls or doing what most people imagine as normal uniformed police work. Pretty much the only uniformed RCMP in Quebec are doing border patrol at the US border.

Kerosen : Merci pour ta réponse, tu as raison parce que si je me trompe pas les militaires vivent dans des quartiers ensemble proche des bases si je m’en trompe pas, tu ma motiver en disant qu’il y’a des québécois qui sont revenu travailler au QC, s’ils me disent de faire 5 ans à Yukon et après de retourner en tant que policier fédérale dans l’aéroport je signe tout de suite hahahaha, comme je t’ai dit c’est mon rêve, je suis présentent étudiant en Technique de sûreté aéroportuaire et je vais bientôt m’enrôler en tant que réserviste dans le le régiment de Maisonneuve, je pense à faire befoaucoup de bénévolat et d’obtenir un diplôme d’etudes Universitaire à l’université de Montréal pour augmenter toutes mes chances d’etre pris dans la GRC, mais si jamais sa ne marche pas j’ai le SCRS en 2ème choix et l’ASFC en 3ème choix, vu que je vais commencer à travailler dans l’aeroper j’espère croiser quelques policiers fédérales là-bas et leur poser des questions meme si à ce que j’entends il ne sont pas très gentil

Brihard : Thank you for your response, yes I assume doing 10 years of service in any province of a Canada before getting back to Quebec and Yes I know that it is even impossible de be deployed I Quebec after finishing the 6 months of training at Regina because in Quebec we already have la sûreté du Quebec who is the provincial police of Quebec like the O.P.P in Ontario so I assume being deployed in Manitoba or Alberta or everywhere in Canada but I hope that one day I will to Quebec and work in the Federal Policing services of the RCMP!

Being posted to Quebec out of Depot isn't entirely impossible, it's just rare. The RCMP has three sort of major lines of policing. One is 'contract' policing, e.g., being 'the police' for a municipality or province. The RCMP has this in ever province and territory except Ontario or Quebec, and it is the largest portion of the RCMP. Next is protective policing- this is stuff like the plainclothes VIP units that protect the PM, Governor General, and some other VIPs. The largest number of these spots are in Ottawa, but there are some protective positions in most of the other really major cities, including in Quebec. There are also a couple of uniformed protective operations units in Ottawa for things like Parliament Hill, and separately for diplomatic sites and federal properties in Ottawa. Protective is a small chunk of the force. Finally, another large chunk of the RCMP is federal policing, as I previously described. There's a good amount of this in Quebec, though still modest numbers overall out of the whole RCMP.

Historically almost as a given new Mounties would go to contract policing. For several reasons, that's no longer as firmly the case, and a larger number are going right to protective or federal policing. There are rookies now going to national security, serious organized crime, protective in Ottawa, etc. I won't speak to the pros and cons of this, suffice that it's happening. That makes it a possibility, though still a long shot.

Contract policing is a much more fun way to start a career anyway, and you get a much better opportunity to learn core police work and get a lot of fast experience under your belt before moving to bigger but slower investigations.

When I say “members” I meant badged police officers. There are about 18-19000, all ranks. The RCMP in Quebec number maybe 800. That number will not increase to any significant degree.
