Looking for information

I was recently given a plaque-mounted rifle by my late great uncle, WO Everett Hale (Air Force).  I don't have any information about it, as it was given as part of his estate.  I was hoping that someone here would be able to give me some information on it.  I believe it may be a Gewehr 43, but I am uncertain.

The plaque reads:

Wow, that is a really cool plaque, beats anything I have. It does seem to be a G43, not sure if it's a replica or an actual WWII german one. Could you give some more info on your Uncle and if there are any markings on the gun? I'm quite curious to know the story behind how he came to have this in his possession. Cheers

Edit: Didn't read good your post good enough, although any other information on your uncle would be nice, same for the markings. does it come off the plaque?

It appears to be a real one that has been disabled.  The backside of the action has cuts from a plasma torch through it, and the bore has some type of solid material filling it in.  It is fixed to the plaque by screws through the back of the plaque into the stock.

Upon further inspection the magazine is detachable and is also plasma-cut.  The front of the right side of the action has S.S. stamped into it.  The front left side of the action has 1943 stamped into it, and another number that has been plasma-cut through (the first and last digits are visible, 4 and 6 respectively) and ends with a 'B'.  The left side of the action also has 4936 marked with what appears to be an electric etching pencil.  A capital B is stamped near the middle of the left side of the action.  A small crown is stamped on the top of the action as well.  Pictures of all this are below.

I have absolutely no idea how this came to be in his possession - that's actually the whole reason I posted this.  Unfortunately I don't have much more information about my great uncle aside from his name, rank and element.  I only met him a handful of times and the family gave this to me because I'm the only other family member in the CF.  Truthfully I was hoping that someone would recognize either his name or WO Towell and be able to give some insight, long shot that it may be.

Good looking plaque. The rifle is a Swedish AG 42 B in 6.5x55mm.  It appears to be deactivated.  More info at:
