Weren‘t a fair proportion of the Aleutians force zombies anyway who were finally forced to do their duty? My mom‘s uncle was one of them. He didn‘t get the CVSM either, even though he went to Holland, because he never volunteered.
It is also true that the Aleutians force didn‘t meet any resistance. So I‘m not certain what "injury" the Aleutian vets suffered by not having their time counted towards the 39-45 Star. I get my CD next year, and I will where it with pride, but I don‘t think I will regale girlies at the bar with stories about what I did to get it - there might be a grunt with a Yugo medal standing behind me with something to say about that, and he would be right!
