Military Paying for College

Hello everyone.

I‘m currently waiting for the phone call that will tell me if I make it or not, or when my BQ starts. I started my reqruiting process of May 2003 and have been waiting for the call for about 10 months now. I‘m getting kind of discouraged and considering a few things.

I‘m applying as Avionics Technician for the Air Force. I can either

A) Wait for the phone call and go to BQ like the rest and get my trade training with the military. But god knows how much longer that will take and I don‘t like the idea of hanging around my house and working at the Superstore for another year.

or

B) Go to a college(BCIT) and get similar type training there for the Air Force.

I know that someone here has been able to get training through a Civilian College and then serve the three years.

Does anyone know if the Military will pay some or all the costs of my tuition, instead of getting trade training from them? Either way, I‘d don‘t want to just quit my application and I want to serve in the Air Forces. It also looks good on my Resume with a College Degree and Military Experience, thats if I decide to leave the military for an Airline Job.

I‘m going to phone the Office on Tuesday, but I was hoping to get some answers here if possible.

Thanks.

I think you should call them to see how your application is doing, 10 months is a long time.
Whatever the trade, the military will pay half your tution cost ($2000 max) from what I heard. Do a research on what colleges offer that program.

jutes - Are you talking about Regular or Reserve Force recruiting?

space_sldr - The program you are talking about is specific to the Reserves. It applies for all degree granting institutions, with any final decisions on eligibility being made during the application process which is handled through the Reserve unit Orderly Rooms.

jutes - You need to go back to the CFRC and see about the status of your file. Since it has been so long, you may have to update some parts of your file to ensure it remains current, such as giving them updated school transcripts. Depending on the program(s) you have applied for, like ROTP for this coming fall, they may only be making those decisons now, which might explain the long wait. But do not wait - go talk to the CFRC.

I worked at a recruiting display a few weeks ago, and they told us that the CF is not advertising the $8000 reimbursement for the reserves, because it is a pilot program thats ending this year.

Theres a chance it could still continue, just don‘t put money on it.

I applied for Regular. Again, I‘ll give them a call on Tuesday after the long weekend.

I live in North Bay Ontario, we have a special program here where the CF fully subsidizes your education as an aviation technician and in return you must serve for 3 years in the trade

it definatly sounds like you should check out this program, so if I were you I‘d ask about it at the CFRC

p.s. its through Canadore College if that helps

that reminds me, not only is your education subsidized but your making salary aswell

Thanks for the link.

I hope that its not the only college in Canada that has this program. BTW, only two graduates?
