Hello.
I recently applied to the armed forces. I completed the CFAT and I scored well enough to receive all three of my choices. I have to wait 10 months to continue my application because of past mariguana usage. This is not the point in contention. The point is I don't know what occupation to choose as I scored well enough to pursue all three in Direct Entry (have a uni degree too). I signed on for 9 years, but if I like my groove, I could do 25. I'm 24, single, and done partying.
I am deciding between Intelligence, Infantry and Military Police (officers). I want to help our (lovely) country. Whether from its behind a desk or on the field isn't my concern. I want to be useful and make a real difference. My dream is to be able to be stationed somewhere I could buy (land, build) a house, preferably in Ontario, but I would be open to living the majority of my years in a Canadian house.
I'm fit, love to research, love working with others and have done hard work most of my life. From how I see it, all three are important careers in protecting the country. InfOff is hands on, dangerous, highly technical and difficult. IntOff is office research, highly analytical, 0-error and highly competitive. MPolOff is sitting at a desk filing out paperwork.
Success in IntOff would likely involve me learning French (learned basics in grade school) ASAP and possibly picking up Russian, Arabic or Mandarin. Getting ahead in InfOff would likely involve me daily improving my physical conditioning until I'm basically a machine. Getting ahead in MPolOff would likely involve me being able to work well with others and be amazing at paperwork.
In conclusion, here's what I want from my military career. I want to help my country. I want to be damn good at it. I want my own house (out of city). I ONLY want to spend my extra money buying land (I'm a very simple dude). And I want to fix my credit from fair to great.
Let me know what you think.
