just finished watching the documentary "Kahanestake: 270 years of
resistance." the army looked as if it put up with a load of kife from the
"Warriors" and the media. but i dont want to become biased. how do you
all feel about the standoff?
ps. one of the officers was a Maj. Alain Tremblay. is this the same
Tremblay who was the Lt.Col. in command of 3R22eR?

I don‘t believe our army was the best way to deal with that situation. I
feel it was a law enforcement problem.. I do believe our soldiers acted
with compassion, restraint and professionalism. The politicians on both
sides of the issue dropped the ball big time. It never should have
escalated to the point where an officer was shot and killed, it wasn‘t a
hostage situation, it was a blockade. None of the events were worth that
mans life.

you gotta remember the SQ is 95 machismo - 5 brains/tactical knowledge -
they went in like cowboys - got whacked at a pretty good defensive position
-- then they were forced to call in the professionals

1990...man, things have changed! all three helo types Kiowa, Chinook, Twin
Huey are gone. so are the old M1 helmets...
if things had boiled down to a firefight, i think the Warriors would have
had a very short and noisy life.

The army would have done some "butt kicking" for sure. I can tell you
though that the "Warrior Society" would be in it for the long haul, can the
same thing be said of our political masters. to provoke a group like the
Warriors, without a clearly thoughtout plan, would be inviting disaster.
They have been doing this for a long time. Our government can‘t commit to
the same name for our army units, never mind a clearly defined mission and
objective.
THIS IS NOT THE FAULT OF THE MILITARY, rather those paper pushers who
inhabit the halls of the Commons.
