Ottawa landmark Lansdowne Park to be renamed
TD Bank set to take over naming rights at facility

Don Campbell,
OTTAWA CITIZEN
06 January 2014

Ottawa’s new sports and entertainment complex is about to take on a new name.

Lansdowne Park is expected to be renamed TD Place when it reopens in 2014, the Citizen has learned, after the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group reached an agreement on naming rights for the entire facility with the TD Bank Group.

The agreement will pay OSEG an annual fee — said to be in seven figures — which will also allow for a full service TD banking centre at Lansdowne.

The refurbished stadium/arena combination on the grounds will be home to the Canadian Football League’s Ottawa Redblacks, the Ontario Hockey League’s Ottawa 67’s and the North American Soccer League franchise Ottawa Fury FC.

It's not the first time it's been renamed. The original name was the Exhibition Grounds. It was renamed Lansdowne Park in 1890.

I have to admit, I like the idea of Toronto Dominion Stadium being located in Ottawa, and Bank of Montreal Field being located in Toronto. Nicely geographically confusing.

I'm sure they can afford it after  the 25% interest rates they charge people on car loans who  just coming out of bankruptcy.

[off topic] So what do you propose is an appropriate interest rate for people who declared bankruptcy due to credit card debt (interest rate on most of 19.99%) in 2010 and then a year later decided to get a car?  Want to really blame someone?  Blame the dealership.  [on topic]

Considering that the Patricia's have already lost Hamilton Gault Barracks in Edmonton, Work Point Barracks in Victoria, Currie Barracks in Calgary, Fort MacLeod in Deilinghofen and Fort Osborne Barracks in Winnipeg (Selkirk and La Verendrye Lines), I'd say that they were lucky with Lansdowne Park.

Cheers,
Dan.

It's worth noting that they call it the TD Gardens in Boston.  No mention of what the "T" stands for, but the logo is unmistakable.
