Good morning everyone, I'm currently deployed on Op Bronze Roto 6 in Sarajevo and I wanted to take a second and try and raise some awareness of a project that we're working on over here called Operation Smile.
CWO Joe Nunez started Operation Smile with the members of Task Force Balkans Roto 2 and Children's World Academy in 2006. With the help of a local Bosnian named Damir Gulamovic they purchased books for a school in Sarajevo, “Isak Samokovlija” which is one of the few fully integrated schools. The students are require to read a certain number of books each year however the school library receives no funds to purchase such books. In the first Op Smile CWO Nunez and Children's World Academy raised $600 and purchased 70 books. During Op Smile II $1300 was raised by Children's World Academy, snack manufacturer MaxiCrisp, 34 Canadian Brigade Group headquarters and members of Task Force Balkans Roto 5. With these funds 150 volumes were purchased and delivered to the school. We are now asking for your help in becoming a “Partner in Peace” with Op Smile III. Any contribution, large or small, will be accepted. On each book purchased we place a sticker on the inside front cover showing the logo or crest of the contributing organizations.
Like I said, I'm trying right now to raise awareness and support for what I believe to be an extremely worthy cause. If anyone is interested in participating as an individual or organization please feel free to contact me at [email protected]
