School of Operational Medicine
SOM has provided operational medicine training to CF personnel at its present location since the early 1970s. A broad range of training is offered, including aviation medicine, diving medicine and the physiology of high altitude and acceleration (G) forces.

Training includes environmental familiarization sessions in DRDC Toronto’s facilities.Students include physicians, biosciences officers, medical technicians, pilots, military and police divers and astronauts. Training is also provided to foreign military officers and civilians working in similar occupational environments. Training is provided through a mix of classroom lectures, case study discussions, environmental familiarization and visits to operational units. Lectures are delivered by in-house specialist staff and internationally renowned experts. All courses are revised and updated on a continual basis in order to meet current operational needs. All medical courses meet the requirement for Continuing Medical Education credits.
