Polish MPs bid to make Jesus king

I live in Poland - now you know how idiotic a group of politicians can get... You know costs of living have increased 100% a year here, as a teacher at college level my salary is 450 Canadian dollars a month. That won't be fixed.. the schools are crazy, the society is breaking down, young people are leaving in droves... and.. the government solution is that jesus Christ is to be voted on as to be king. By the way, there is a sex-scandal going on in the sejm at the moment... Now aren't you happy to be in Canada?

Back in the summer, the feds were whinging about how many buildings had a Conservative's name on it. I suggested that there were (at the time) 28 much better names to be put on buildings. I'm starting to believe it's some sort of right of passage for a new politician to say or do something incredibily stupid in the first year of office. (ok, so then there's Jack...no excuse)
Actually the big irony in the Polish politicos is that they are mostly sons and/or daughters of the previous Communist era bigwigs. As one political commentator put it (roughly paraphrased) "From the 50's-80's the politicians said: "Isn't Communism wonderful! Look at all the benefits I have!"; from 90's 'til now:"Isn't Capitalism wonderful! Look at all the benefits I have!"". I think ol' Douglas Adams in his "Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy" summed it up well in his description of a planet where all the politicos are lizards; the people hate the lizards, but if they don't vote for a lizard, the wrong lizard will get in".... What a world.... on a lighter note, Happy Xmas and assorted other celebrations of this time, or is it safe to say anything about Xmas now?
