Good day,

My situation is as follows.  Wife is pregnant and needs to go on mat leave in Dec.  Her EI mat leave pay will be topped up by her employer.  However, she must return service to her employer in the amount of hours equivalent to what she will receive in top up pay.  That being said I cannot be posted from my current location until she has had the opportunity to return service to her employer.  I don't see a need to request Compassionate Status as I can still attend courses or be deployed.  I have heard of making a "Quality of Life" request but that it has been changed to something else.  Anyone have any ideas on how I should proceed?

Thanks!

What's your current career status -- are you on a normal posting, BTL or ATL? If normal posting, then even if you do get posted, a few months of IR should work, right?

I'm on normal posting but I have already been here since 2009 and I have been promoted in the same workplace a year ago.  I would like to avoid IR as I think it's an unnecessary cost for the CF amongst other reasons.  It would have to be IR for over a year if I were to be posted next year.

This may be something that can be discussed with your CM ahead of time. Many times you can be accomodated with no career implications for a short period of time for reasons like this. From my experience, when a member says I would prefer not to be posted this year because of X but will gladly go the year after, CM are willing to try to work something out.

Especially if you give the CM a few geographic locations to post you next year. Make it easy for them to find you a spot next APS, and you should be fine.
