So I was reading some old threads about the app process and I noticed people saying that they had references called by recruiters. At what time during the application process do the recruiters ask for references from you? Reason I am asking is I don't have many references (only 1 most likely due to my young age,18) and am a little worried not having references will make me much less competitive.

References are needed at the very first step of the recruiting process, in the application papers. Here you have all the information about the reliability and security screening and what the DND will do: http://www.forces.ca/en/page/applynow-100#step2-2

Even if you are only 18, I am sure that you have people not related to you who know enough about you to confirm that you will be trustworthy for a job in the CF. When I applied, I gave as references bosses from past jobs, a friend who is a police officer, a school teacher and a neighbor who is a doctor (any member of a professional order is a good reference).
