Hello everyone,
I’m so glad that I found this site because I have a million questions some of which I won’t ask here, because after reading a few threads I have found that some people get exasperated about re-answering questions so I’ll try to find an answer to most my questions on my own  . Currently I am a technical writer at a company. In 2000, I VR’d from the military. At 17 I was accepted for the RMC program as an AERE officer, finished BOTC1 and was doing prep. year at CFLRS St. Jean. After a number of visits to RMC that year, I decided (for reasons that I will not mention here) the school wasn’t for me and left to pursue other options. I have since finished a B.Sc. with a major in Biology and I’ve been working for the last year at a job where I sit in front of a computer all day and I’m so sick of sitting here that I ready to lose my mind! I’ve spent the last 10 years thinking about rejoining and I figure if, after a decade, I’m still thinking about it, I should probably think about rejoining on a more serious level. My question is this, will I be discriminated against since I VR’d more than 11 years ago? Will it work against me rather than for me? I also have a question about trades as well; having a major in biology doesn’t seem to be the optimal degree for the military and I was wondering if I could still be considered for some of the trades such as Construction Engineer (the job fact sheet says “SHOULD have degree in engineering” not MUST have a degree in engineering)? Any help that anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. I am also VERY open to advice as well. Thanks in advance.
