So I'm going to Vimy ridge in April, I had originally planned to Wear my DEU's to the cerimony (90th anniversary) But now they say we have to wear a WW1 style tunic and play the role of a soldier that died there.
For part of the trip we need to research the life story of the soldier that we have to represent,
I have to Represent
CSM David W. Aitkens
Reg. # 147929
78th Bn
buried in Canadian #2 cemetary
So far I've found the attestation papers (I know, Real hardeh?  ;)  )
So does anyone know what my next move should be?
I'm in Winnipeg and he was a Winnipeg Grenadier, I think I might be able to do something wiht that, maybe raid there archives but I think they no longer exsist, Would there records still be at Minto?
I know I can pull his service records but I figured I'd start here first and see what kinda help I can find on this site.
I"m going with school, I liked the Idea of going in my uniform, the Prime minister and General Hillier are suppose to both be there,
On a side note, do you salute the Prime minister ( I know the americans salute the president)

Indeed the Winnipeg Grenadiers are on the Supplementary Order of Battle. I would thus expect most records would be held at the National Archives in Ottawa
I recommend putting your request in for the service records ASAP. I'm sure you are not the only one who will be putting in a request.

Before charging off to the National archives, suggest you have a talk to the local Winnipeg units.  I am positive that historical material from the Grenadiers was left with the Winnipeg Rifles and/or the Ft Gary Horse.
