Ridiculous Experiences and other foolishness

Not sure if this has been started before but.....

What are some experiences.

I remember when I was getting out, my clothing docs had been changed over from the paper to computer.  For some reason the sex was completed as female (perhaps an editorial on my soldiering skills?), and kit was added and deleted.  It was tough to explain that no I did not have 2 bivi bags, nor did I have high heels or skirts...

Reminds me of a parody MAD Magazine did back in the 50s (and dutifully reprinted in one of the "digests" we snatched up as kids in the 70s).

It was a Reader's Digest parody, and went something like:
HUMOR IN UNIFORM

It was a cold November morning in Italy when my outfit, the 1st Battalion of the 161st Infantry Regiment, was ordered to make the third attack on the lower slopes of Mount Sammucro in as many days.  Leading elements of one company made it halfway to the crest, but were beaten back with heavy casualties.

In the afternoon, as rain swept over the battlefield, with the 2nd Battalion in support and advancing through the steadily worsening weather, our company made it onto the heights and into the enemy positions.  The fighting was hand to hand, and with all our officers killed or mortally wounded, we were forced to fall back.

An hour before dusk, as the rain fell away, and with the artillery of our entire division laying a heavy smokescreen, the remnants of our regiment went forward once again; the third time wasn't the charm, and again, we were repulsed with heavy casualties; I suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and had to be carried in a shelter half over a half a mile to our Aid Station.

Hmm, reading back over what I've written, I guess there's not much funny about it, but then there are a lot of veterans who think war is nothing to laugh about either.

I think at the age of 12, the irony may have been a little lost on us....
