This conference hosted at RMC has opened up the veil of miscopnceptions surrounding Canadian SOF.  The Kingston Whig-Standard article is not too bad.

A quote from Comd CANSOFCOM, BGen D Michael Day, shared with the usual disclaimer:

"Very few special operations can be conducted without the support of conventional forces," Day said, and noted that due to the high tempo and close relationship between special and conventional units in Afghan -istan, army commanders understand and appreciate where his unit fits into the puzzle in a way they may not have a decade ago.

Day stressed that special forces are a complement to the conventional army and vice-versa.

In small, highly trained and mobile teams, they are able to swoop in and take prisoners, gather intelligence and, yes, kill people, but they cannot hold ground or sustain long-term military operations as battle groups are expected to do.

What?!?! You mean you can't take out a Company of North Koreans by yourself in 15 minutes, armed with a sniper rifle, two assault rifles, an anti tank rocket (with 15 rockets), a knife and a pistol, then sneak away undetected? Ok, ok, but surely you can get shot a few times in the torso and carry on with the mission...no?

Very good article. Well written. I remember Colonel Day from when he was in 2VP. Great officer.

Bah.  All disinformation.  We all know that JTF2 really spend their time prowling jungles with M134 chainguns, slaughtering zombies and throwing out pithy one liners.

Such as "Get to the choppah" or "Five metre spacing.  No noise"  ;D

But, the "get to the choppah" line was delivered with such emotional clarity and conviction, it creates an emotional resonance within me that never fails to bring a tear to my eye.

...

Oh, wait...  My bad.  That wasn't emotion.  That was gas.

[After killing terrorist with knife]
"STICK around."

"Whats the matter, CIA got you pushing too many pencils?" (Need one large austrian and one large black guy with big biceps, arm wrestling to finish this line...)

Or would it be CSIS in place of CIA?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! They used a shot of a geardo GiB!

Yep, that's something to put in an advertisement for a knife that will, more than likely, never be used for it's intended purpose. Stabbing someone when your LB and side arm are kaput.

That made my day!

Regards
