Tac Vest Kit List

The kit list varies from unit to unit, and if you're in my unit it varies from month to month as well.
This is what I have as a C9 gunner:
Right front pouch: mag charger, x2 BFA, campaint, bug dope, electrical tape, waterless hand cleaner, 550 chord, zap straps, earplugs
Right C9 Pouch: Nalgene bottle, 2qt canteen, or something similar
Right Smoke Grenade Pouch (the one attached to the C9 Pouch): left empty for a smoke grenade
Right grenade pouch: small rag, small CLP bottle
Left Front pouch: Toque, combat gloves
Left C9 Pouch: Ammo
Left Smoke Pouch: Field dressing and surgical gloves
Left grenade pouch: coiled C9 sling
Inner Pocket: PW tags, notes on the radio, FMP
Rank slip on on the left shoulder strap and bayonet (if issued) worn on the front in the scabbard pointing up. Spare barrel rigged to the back of the vest. As soon as I get the chance, I'll attach a 5 litre pouch from the issued small pack system to the back as well.
Usually, my bushcap is either on my head or in my shirt pocket.

If you are lucky enough to be issued a compass and map, as I was for a few nav ex's this fall, you can put the compass in the left grenade pouch, and the map in the inside map pocket. It's actually quite convenient, and you normally use the left hand to hold the compass anyway (if you are a righty).
I've never seen or been given a kit list for the tac vest. I've been doing pre-deployment training for what seems like forever. You are just expected to bring what you need every time we go out and do something. If you don't have what you need, too bad for you.
That said, I usually have some camp paint, bug juice, a lighter, hand cleaner, and zap straps in one front pouch, and a mag charger, field dressing, toque and gloves in the other. Since the grenade pouches never get used for grenades, that's usually where I stuff small extras like ear plugs, and BFA. One smoke nade pouch gets used for snacks or a survival kit that I've carried since forever, and the other left empty on the off chance I actually get a smoke grenade.
I've managed to cram the rain jacket top into the spare C9 pouch (I am not a C9 gunner usually, but I carry 2x C9 pouches for the room). The other one has the 2L canteen. Now that it's getting cooler, I may switch back to the canteen pouch and carry the thermos bottle.
Apparently a spare IMP meal can be carried in the inside map pocket. I haven't tried this, and I never eat the main meals anyway. I'd hate for it to rupture and get all over my tac vest and uniform. That would suck.
For most warm kit (ranger blanket, fleece, etc), and if I have to carry more ammo, I bring along the NBC bag. One of these days I may upgrade to a more high speed, capdat patrol pack of some kind.

I feel like vomiting everytime I eat one, so they wouldn't be too far off! 
This week I saw one of my compatriots attach his space C9 pouch to the back, sort of like a tiny back pack. Said he had his scarf in there. Since we haven't carried rucksakcs on this pre-deployment training since the BFT, you could go with that arrangement and put spare socks or whatever in it.

According to the booklet that comes with the newest small pack, you can attach the add-on pouches to your tacvest. I have added one of the two fanny packs to the lower rear of my TV-makes a pretty good buttpack. The other pouches will clip on the TV wherever you want them. The new small pack itself appears to be a very good piece of kit. Cheers.

??? Not too sure about this, but, my PL Warrant says we'll be using a kit layout for the tac vest that is incorporated in RCR Battle school (or RCR anyway.) No word yet exactly how it goes but I'm sure it'll be of uniformitic nature (if that even makes sense.)
Here's my layout I came up with for TRNG:
Rifleman - All Mag, M-67, and Smoke pouches kept clear for Ammo
- Right C9 or Canteen Pouch with 1QT Canteen and cup or 2 QT (or Thermos during winter)
- Left C9 pouch reserved for Sect Stores (C9 200RD box, personal ammo, pyro during raid, e.t.c)
- Right Dressing Pocket with bushcap (or toque) and gloves w/ liner
- Left Dressing Pocket with Mag Charger x 2, Cam Paint w/ mirror, Bug Jizz, Sun Screen, KFS, Field Dressing on top
- Mini Mag Lite holder (holds Mini Mag obviously) but some guys that still use angleheads tuck thier gerber in it (works well)
- Whistle holder - whistle (for element cmdrs) on lanyard
- "Mo kit" - patrol pack or Nuke bag with creature comforts (rain gear, rations, extra ammo, coffee cup (for 2 qt users, etc(Strapped to ruck when using Travel Order)
C9 Gunner - Both C9 Pouches reserved for C9 boxes (if you get three) or Left C9 reserved (if two) with Right pouch for water
- Smoke and M-67 pouches reserved for grenades respectively
- everthing else, same as rifleman except spare barrel is slung and cleaning kit, parts kit is stored in small pack
C6 Gunner - Both C9 pouches reserved (each one gets a 100RD belt)
- everything else same as C9 gunner
Unfortunately, this kit layout is made without the complete consideration of Winter Warfare, thus, this will only be good for 3 seasons. When I get our official Unit/Battleschool layout (whatever), I'll post it ASAP with pics or diags if possible.

Just remembered:
On the CTS Web Site, there is an animated diagram of what each part of the tac vest is meant for. Most guys are finding it difficult to incorporate everything they carried in the 82 pattern webbing (buttpack essentials) onto the vest because the tac vest was designed strictly for immediate combat and water supply (hence, the shortcomings of the vest layout.)

Ah yes, the "Tac Vest Sux" thread did cover the shortcomings of even the "intended purpose" of the Tac vest. Nonetheless, there must be a proper layout for kit for the "Tease the Soldier" kit; initiative and self-innovation will just get some poor PteR jacked up and just cause frustration with new kit that's supposed to eliminate the frustration with old kit in the first place (ie: soldier + constant changing kitlist = 
soldier.) And after seeing pappy post pics of the PSP "JTF2" Vest, it frustrates me to use the new issued vest with its' shortcomings too.
