As I sat for all of 10 minutes of the soccer game I could stomach, I had to wonder where oh where did the term "beautiful game" ever originate. After watching the recent world cup and all its fakery and diving and boring predictable back and forth and forth and back and endless gaggles of running dudes who never seem to move the ball anywhere except up or out of play, I assumed the under twenties would generate something, anything that resembled flow or intricate movement of the ball simply because of youthfull exuberance. It was not to be. The same boring monotonous up and down gaggle of younger dudes doing the same thing, only worse. Flow is relief after the short walk back to bed. It is a slow river. It is a dude on ice deeking out the hapless defence as the winning goal lights up the crowd. It certainly is NOT part of the so called "beautiful game". No wonder everyone in hit crazy North America tunes out the "beautiful game". watching specs of dust converging to create planets is far more interesting, and just as chaotic. Am I the only one not smitten by the soccer bug? Cheers, and see you all in Kingston
