We are few and have lots of stuff, including space and water.
They are many and lack stuff.

If we want to protect our elbow room and our lifestyle then we better figure out how to supply them stuff and make our space available to them on our terms.

The water question is actually the easiest one to fix. And it is one place where solar power can be directly and beneficially applied even inefficiently. All we have to do is mimic normal operations which are highly inefficient by very effective.

The sun evaporates water every where.
The water moves with the air everywhere.
The water drops from the air when temperature and wind speed change over mountains.

All we have to do is build "mountains" where we want the water to supply the people. Solar stills for every one.

Swap sea water for the gray water and spread out over the sea or adjacent desert and enhance condensation by circulating cold deep water to the surface.

If we want to protect our elbow room and our lifestyle then we better figure out how to supply them stuff and make our space available to them on our terms.
The "figure out" has been done - consensual representative democracy and free markets, emphasizing the right and responsibility of people to make their own lives. What remains is convincing people to change their own ways. We can't help or even tolerate people who are in family/clan/tribe mode; or, to be more general, those who persist in low-trust behaviours. All we can do is exclude them from polluting the good examples.
