Can anyone direct me to where i can find the different stages of trenches?

Thanks

Stage one-Dig
Stage two-Dig some more
Stage three- even though your back fuggin hurts...Dig Some More!
Stage four-Stretch
Stage Five-Get Fed up with the impossiblity of digging a trench in Meaford (Backhoe‘s Break digging there) and break your shovel.
Stage Six-Get a new Shovel. Then put corrigated steel in it and re-enforce your muddy bloody hole. Finally Cam your OHP.

Ummmm Lexi...do you even KNOW what a stage six trench looks like? :D

Regards

Under the new doctrine there are only 3 stages.
...whatever, a trench is a trench.

Bratok... 3 stages now? Sounds good to me!

Scarlino:

Last summer we had to dig the ol‘ trneches for SQ, and my fireteam partner and I never got past Stage 1, the shell scrape.

I wish I could tell you exactly what the other stages were, but we were only briefly shown what proper trenches looked like on a particularly hot and uncomfortable day, so I wasn‘t really paying attention.

Basically, though, you just keep digging until you can stand up. The later stages add overhead protection (OHP), firing steps, grenade sumps, etc. I honestly don‘t think a grenade sump will save you, however. It is my belief that if you are stuck in a trench in the modern age of warfare, you‘re as good as dead.

Stage 1 - Siting: you decide where you want your trench to go then dig down 75cm. This will protect two soldiers in the sitting position. Save the natural ground cover.

Stage 2 - Standing: dig down to 1.4m so the you and your buddy can stand.
To me this seems like you‘ve already got yourself a trench.

Stage 3 - Drainage Sump: dig a squarish hole .3m deep for the rain to accumulate in. Fill it with rocks so you don‘t step in it. I think you do the grenade sump at this stage also.

Stage 4 - Revetting: Support sheets of corrugated (wavy)iron against the walls of your trench with 3m long pickets. This strengthens your trench and helps prevent cave-ins when arty hits nearby. You can stabilize it more if you stake smaller (ie 1m) pickets around the edges of your trench and attach them to the top of the 3m pickets in the trench with good wire.

Stage 5 - Overhead Protection: make sure your OHP can support 45cm of earth on it plus one soldier, minimum. Use your OHP for water protection also, I guess with a groundsheet or whatever. Cam it up.

Stage 6 - Improvements: seats, shelves, expanding the underground area(make sure to revet it), cooking area, whatever tickles your fancy.

Do not be fooled: the new 3 stages still include all the steps in the old six; they are just grouped together.

Ask the Ukrainians if trenches work
