"Update Pay Statement"/Back pay, after BMQ?

Apologies in advance if this is posted in the wrong place and for my general lack of understanding on the topic, but I was hoping someone here could clear the air for me on what this "pay statement" we received at the end of basic really means.

I've heard that we get some kind of lump some of this $1736 as "back pay" from our time at St. Jean. However I've also heard that this is simply a statement showing a correction to our monthly pay? Obviously very different things. So does anyone know what the information on this paper means?

If you stop by your orderly room they should be able to tell you exactly what the issue is, but sometimes they don't have your pay set at the right pay grade when you first show up in St. Jean so at some point there is an adjustment made after the fact, and you get back pay for the difference.

There should be a calculation on the file though that the clerks can pull up and confirm what the reason was.
