...ouch, all for the sake of a booty call? Now he will have to pay more from his leftover in the form of no doubt a divorce, and possible child support and alimony(?)

An Army major general has been stripped of his stars and forced out of the military after a 30-year military career because of a long extramarital affair and “swinger” lifestyle.

An Army spokesman says Maj. Gen. David Haight was demoted by three steps to the rank of lieutenant colonel, a steep and rare downgrade for a senior officer.

The demotion will cost him more than $40,000 in annual retirement pay, based on pay scales for a lieutenant colonel and a two-star general with 30 years in the Army. And it slams the door on what was once a promising career.

Isn't pension an average of best five years? I don't see how a demotion would affect his pension.

...must think he is a God's gift to women eh

He will now be demoted from a two-star general to a lieutenant colonel and his annual pension will drop from $122,000 to $79,800, according to USA Today, which first revealed details of Haight’s affairs.

The love struck pair met in 2005 when Armstrong was working as a contractor in Iraq handling the remains of combat fatalities. Haight was stationed there at the time as the commander of the 2nd Ranger Battalion.

Armstrong sent Haight a flirtatious email complimenting his “terrific smile” which sparked a years-long affair that spanned Haight’s multiple proceeding postings, according to emails provided to USA Today.

Some of the emails include explicit sexual language as when Haight wrote in a September 2012 message that “I love hearing about women who like and giggle about (oral sex).”

Don't know, just looking at his shoulder flash "Follow Me"  I don't think I would LOL
Couldn't resist

......Menard is married to a major who runs a logistics company at CFB Valcartier, near Quebec City. The couple has two children.

The Department of National Defence paid nearly $40,000 to move a disgraced former brigadier-general from the Montreal area to the United Arab Emirates,

Then there was these 2 cases

In June, Col. Bernard Ouellette was relieved of his command with the UN mission in Haiti for carrying on what the military called an inappropriate relationship, though not with a fellow soldier. The military said there were also management problems that Oullette, who was directly responsible for 10 Canadian soldiers, could not correct.

The very next month, Lt.-Commander Tina Hanratty, an executive officer aboard the HMCS Moncton, was demoted to a desk job in Halifax after alleged inappropriate conduct. The naval officer, who is married to Lt.-Commander Niall Hanratty, commanding officer of the HMCS Shawinigan, was not charged or demoted.

Noted that you realized he is 'Merican.  They have a few different plans for determining retirement pay.

Since LTC Haight likely joined prior to 8 Sep 80, his retirement is calculated from his final pay.  Those who joined after that date are calculated from the average of best 36 months.

He'll still get almost $80,000 US a year??  Oh...boo hoo....  ::)

.....
He was commissioned in 1986 at Brigham Young University and later was assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment, an Army special operations unit.

Other general demoted in the past but still with bumper pays

1. http://www.politico.com/story/2012/11/general-william-ward-demoted-for-lavish-travel-spending-083770

2. Brigadier General Janis Karpinski – demoted to Colonel for her role in the Abu Ghraib torture and prisoner abuse.

3. Major General Michael T. Harrison – demoted to Brigadier General for failing to investigate a sexual assault.

4. Brigadier General Richard S. Hassan – demoted to Colonel after being found to have sexually harassed female subordinates, engaged in unprofessional relationships and created a hostile work environment.

5. Major General Ralph O. Baker – demoted to Brigadier General after groping a female advisor

6. Major General John J. Maher III – demoted to Colonel for having affairs with his subordinates' wives

7. Brigadier General Robert Newell – demoted to Colonel after being found to have had sexual relations with a female subordinate.

Since LTC Haight likely joined prior to 8 Sep 80, his retirement is calculated from his final pay.  Those who joined after that date are calculated from the average of best 36 months.

Lt Colonel Haight will receive retired pay of $79,800. Had he not been swinging and retired at 30 years as a Major General he would draw $122800. If his wqife files for divorce his retired pay would be cut in half.I think his superiors were sending a message. :D

Maybe his wife should be given the difference between the two.....  ^-^

Being pedantic here, but if only one half of a relationship is having relations with other people, wouldn't be "cheating" or "adultery" instead of a "swinger lifestyle"  ???

Most states in the US have a "no fault divorce" rule, so cheating / adultery is a moot point.

I agree with PMedMoe....his STBX wife (she should divorce him) should be given the difference of his would have been pension figures. Then on top of that he would have to pay child support and alimony

Lesson?  Don't send a Colonel to do a Master Corporal's job.    ;)

You are making the assumption that those "10 soldiers" were NCMs. They could have been offrs from the rank of Lt - LCol

Just sayin'
