US soldiers in Iraq asked to pray for Bush

They may be the ones facing danger on the battlefield, but US soldiers in Iraq are being asked to pray for President George W Bush.

Thousands of marines have been given a pamphlet called "A Christian‘s Duty," a mini prayer book which includes a tear-out section to be mailed to the White House pledging the soldier who sends it in has been praying for Bush.

"I have committed to pray for you, your family, your staff and our troops during this time of uncertainty and tumult. May God‘s peace be your guide," says the pledge, according to a journalist embedded with coalition forces.

The pamphlet, produced by a group called In Touch Ministries, offers a daily prayer to be made for the US president, a born-again Christian who likes to invoke his God in speeches.

Sunday‘s is "Pray that the President and his advisers will seek God and his wisdom daily and not rely on their own understanding".

Monday‘s reads "Pray that the President and his advisers will be strong and courageous to do what is right regardless of critics".

In an ironic twist, I feel morally superior even though I‘m an athiest.

I guess there‘s nothing wrong with carrying a faith, but I sure hope that Sunday‘s text was a mistake; you‘d think the leaders of the most powerful nation in the world would rely on understanding of current events and not scripture.

Could be a nice back door in an impeachment hearing though - "God told me to do it!"

Pray that the president beats that wiener John Kerry. :D

It wasnt meant as "listen to what jesus says". Its more of a "guide me and help me make the right choices".

Not a scapegoat, a request for proper guidance.

When I read it I thought it should be the other way around.

In both Anglican and Catholic masses, I have incanted prayers to the Queen, the Prime Minister, Governor-Generals, "other elected officials" - I see nothing wrong with including a prayer to your Commander in Chief - as long as it applies, regardless of who is in office.

Unbelievable...NuLL that‘s hilarious...lets rely on scripture instead of our understanding - good idea. This aside, I agree with ShortBus on the intention of the prayers. If I were in their shoes, I would pray that the president and his advisors make the right choices too, but then again, and depending on what state I came from, I might not know how to read those prayers either eh.

I can guarantee you Bush doesn‘t rely on his own understanding. Man is not smarter than the One who created him and Bush recognizes that truth.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths". Proverbs 3:5-6

I‘d rather be under a leader who relies on God than on his own knowledge. As humans, we are limited. Maybe that‘s what is wrong with Canada‘s leader.. he‘s relying too much on his own wisdom/understanding. Maybe some of us need to pray for our leader?

I would view these pamphlets as an option of praying to God (If someone does subscribe to a belief in a God) Not to praying for a a specific leader.

If the pamphlet said:
"Pray to our lord O Bush that might smite our enemies with his mighty hands, leaving the seal of our truly holy president on all earth that he touches, for The president is God embodied in man."
I might start to worry.

hahaha, actually I might start to laugh at that.

I don‘t know about the rest of you, but I don‘t think it‘s asking too much to have world leaders who understand what‘s going on. Am I just crazy, or what?

I am ROTFLMAO!!!!!!! :D

Please you guys, you‘re killing me. You may pray for various leaders on your own time but how many of them have asked for it by sending you propaganda? LOL. I‘m with Null on this one.

I don‘t think the soldiers over in Iraq need propoganda to pray. They‘re probably doin a lot of it on their own given their situation.

And I‘m sure that some are probably praying that world leaders would "lean unto their own understanding" a little bit more frequently. I sure would be. We don‘t need a leader who has his own "wisdom/understanding"? Give me a break!

The Canadian Revised Standard Bible:
"Oh Lord PM, guide me through this time of need unscathed in the same way you escape squeaky clean from everything. Blessed art thou who can tell me you love me while inserting your fist in mine ***. May you live forever on the right hand of God, moving Jesus to the left as even he couldn‘t avoid the inevitable as thou and thine party hast for oh so many years, amen. In the name of the Chretien, the Martin and the Liberal party."

Actually last time I checked, the Lord PM wants to get behind you.
It‘s the only place he can operate...you know, pitching. :D
