some of you might remember me posting a month or two ago about my experiences...

well since then my medical results have arrived in london from my family doctor. they just got sent off to borden yesterday (thur 15th).

i did some calling around to get my file shuffled to the proper reserve unit i am near (grey and simcoe foresters), and had the pleasure of speaking to a Sgt. Dawber in the barrie office... i must say she brightened my day!

While talking to her, she brought up a few things I had never really known before..

#1 she asked if i was interested in a co-op program while I was in school, something to the tune of school in the morning reserves in the afternoon. and you get a few credits towards your course... and paid :)

#2 she also said I would be a good candidate for an officer, as they are lacking young officers! I never even considered being an officer, since I figured you would have to be university grad type material.

So two good things, and she said hopefully next week she will give me a call back after recieving the file... for my PT test booking.

After this is just my med file clearing Borden and ZOOM.

So, I am happy about this.... anyone else on here have anything to comment on?

:D feel free

Awesome congrats! #1 you definitely should do, your getting paid to go to school and it looks very good. #2 Never rule it out, keep as many options open as you can. You don't need a degree they will take you if your HS marks are good.

I wish they had that program when I was in High School, I might not have been such a muttonhead with a bit of the discipline that I got shortly AFTER.

I think that this is the way ahead, the way to attract young men and women like sappo to the Forces. Also a good way for them to figure out if it is really for them or not. They get to get the "feel" of the job and can decide from there if they are suited to it. I think that in the end it will save alot of time, heartache and money doing this and also give these young men and women who would otherwise drop out an option. We need officers but need NCM's just as well. I am very interested to learn more about this program, wether it is on a unit level or if it is Forces wide. This is something that they should beat the drums about!!

Quote from a movie: "Walk into any guidance counsellor's office in the nation and you will see maps of the country with pin heads of different colours pointing out where certain graduates went to University. Johnny went to Yale, Jenny went to USC, Timmy went to Notre Dame. But what about the young man or woman who finishes school and decides to go into their great nations service, where are the pins pointing to where they went?" This subject made me think of that.

Cheers!

I got carried away......

Congrats, sappo, hope you do well!

haha thanks.....

yes it does go to show there are a few options open... depending on what you are looking to do.

I was set on a career in the army at first, but then re-evaluated myself and chose police officer instead.... so that is my path in school.

but this way I can satisfy both options.

truthfully sgt. dawber was honest in saying she wasnt too up-to-date on the co-op info, she had just taken over for the previous recruiting sgt. who is on leave I believe. So I have no idea if this is unit based, or force wide... but she said 'they' did this years ago and have seen enough interest to bring it back again..... if 'they' means the cdn forces or just the reserve unit, i dunno :D
