Hey everyone!

Just have a question and I have asked my unit many times and have just been brushed off. I would like to go overseas to Afghanistan but want to know what you need before I can apply to go as far as qualified to go? I am just a new recruit (R031) I have completed my BMQ and will be doing my SQ and BIQ in the summer so come Sept I will be a qualified private. Thanks for the advice and look forward to hearing from everyone!

As a minimum you will require BMQ, SQ & BIQ.  You must also be over 18 years of age to deploy.  Additional courses (such as driver wheeled) may work in your favour as well, as will good reports from your chain of command; they will not nominate poor performers.

Finally, your area must have been tasked to generate troops.  From your profile I will assume you are in LFCA.  Under the current version of the Managed Readiness Plan (MRP), LFCA will not be tasked for the next several rotations (this fall they will generate TF 3-06).  If another area has difficulty producing the number of soldiers required, LFCA may be asked for additional troops.

In the interim, while waiting for an opportunity to go overseas, look to get experience and training.  Comms courses; weapons courses; even experience working as OPFOR at CMTC would all give you an excellent background and experience.
