Does anyone here really think it is Bin Laden?

I honestly don‘t know whether to believe any of these tapes are authentic or not. The previous recordings that I heard are the kind of quality a Fisher Price toy recording set would produce. Makes it pretty much impossible for speech recognition software to make any concrete conclusions to identify them. How hard is it for these guys to get a half decent recording?

To my (limited) knowledge on this subject, some of the statements do not seem to characteristic of his statements before he disappeared. It strikes me strange that he would place such importance on the Palistine over the war in Iraq. Prior to all this he was pissed about Americans being in Saudi Arabia. Why rally support from there instead of Iraq?

If I had to place money, I would bet these tapes are fake, and they are being produced by a Palestine rebel group trying to raise support for their cause in Laden‘s name. It is just a hunch, and I could be way off on this one.

I am also wondering about other modivations for offering the peace truce to Europe. Would this allow AQ to operate in seclusion in Europe with greater ease?

What do you guys think?

‘Bin Laden‘ tape offers truce to European countries
Last Updated Thu, 15 Apr 2004 6:34:05
CAIRO - An audiotape purported to be from Osama bin Laden offers a truce to European countries that don‘t attack Muslims and warns it will avenge the death of an assassinated Hamas leader.

INDEPTH: Iraq

Arab satellite networks, including Al-Arabiya and Al-Jazeera, aired the seven-minute tape on Thursday. If it is from bin Laden, it would be his first audiotape since September.
"I announce a truce with the European countries that do not attack Muslim countries," said the voice on the tape.

The speaker says polls show European nations want reconciliation, and that their departure would deny "war mongers" further opportunity. The truce would begin when European soldiers leave Islamic countries, it said.

European reaction to the tape was swift.

European Union head Romano Prodi immediately rejected the idea, saying there would be "no negotiation under terrorist threat." Foreign Affairs officials from Britain, Spain and Italy said the idea of negotiating with bin Laden is "unthinkable" and "absurd."

The message also warns of revenge for the death of Hamas spiritual leader Sheik Ahmed Yassin. He died during an Israeli missile strike on a Gaza City mosque.

FROM MAR. 22, 2004: U.S. says it had no advance knowledge of assassination

"We vow before God to take revenge for him from America for this, God willing," said the message.

The speaker says the "real problem" is the "occupation of Palestine."

It denounces what it calls the United States‘ profit from the war in Iraq, saying businesses are making billions in profit, naming the American company Halliburton.

Dude, he‘s living in a cave/on the run. I don‘t think he‘s gonna be able to go into a recording studio with P. Diddy and get a quality sound. Plus in Afghanistan a Fisher Price toy recodring set is probably the most technological piece of equipment they have.

Dude! I have a $2 microphone that produces better quality than those tapes. What I was eluding to was my suspition that the poor qualities of these recordings are being done on purpose so that it makes verification next to impossible.
