The War in Ukraine

There’s video of a large smoke plume with audio of potentially lots of secondaries. Fuel or munitions seems more likely. I struggle to imagine SUAS the size we see in the videos catastrophically killing and burning a ship.
Agreed, if they were a competent navy like the USN … oh wait. This will be a smoking accident then.

Not it’s impossible they hit a ship and took it out, it just seems less likely.

Either way, National Reconnaissance Office is having a great day.

So, putting aside for a moment our collective throbbing boners for burning Russian bombers-

We’re starting to realize how COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY FUCKED we currently are from a domestic force protection standpoint, right?

How easily could this be done to our C-17s or MPA? Or to our pretty new destroyers? Or a CC-330 returning a chalk home from Roto? Or a handful of commercial airports a few days before Christmas? Or the national Remembrance Day ceremony? Something on a smaller scale than this is well within reach of non-state actors.
First step should be shelters/hangers for all of our aircraft. Nothing should be left parked in the open on the tarmac.

If I'm not mistaken that's part of the F-35 facility upgrades. Same should be done for all our aircraft.

$7 Billion in damages, and 34% of Russia's strategic bombers out of action according to the SBU. Can't wait until the satellite imagery of the aftermath is released.

And to top off todays events.

Hardened Aircraft Shelters for all of our operational aircraft fleets has to now be on the agenda.
The thing is Russia has previously said that any attacks against its Strategic assets will be crossing a redline. Expect something massive from Russia in return.

TWZ has harping on this issue for some time and apparently the top US military types have been disregarding it. That attitude might change after this!

Russia had been using those assets to hit Ukraine since the start of their invasion. Those bombers were fair game and the whole world knowns it.

If you want to claim your strategic forces are not legitimate targets in a conventional fight, then don’t wield them in that conventional fight.

More missiles, drones, and possibly another Oreshnik. There isn't much else Russia hasn't thrown at Ukraine already that isn't a WMD. And the latter has an extremely thin chance of ever happening unless Putin is truly ready to say goodbye to current Russia.

If anyone was worried about the Black Sea Fleet and Crimea being forgotten and left out, fear not.

As a counterpoint, I'll offer: fuck 'em.

Russia has shown no reticence to do all kinds of heinous stuff to Ukraine. If Russia doesn't like having its teeth pulled, it can learn to stop biting. What are they going to do, try to make Ukraine cease to exist, take its children hostage, and try to assassinate its president?

Pretty much, also the leaked document on Russian nuclear doctrine said 29% loss of the bomber fleet would get a nuclear response. Ukraine called their bluff

Betting on Russia quitting is a fools game imo. If they want to sacrifice more of their strategic capabilities let them

I don't think we can have much real confidence yet in just how much of the bomber fleet got taken out. There's an order of magnitude's difference between what we have concrete open source evidence of, and what was claimed. I suspect it'll fall somewhere between the two, potentially on the lower end. We'll probably get a decent estimate from satellite photos by tomorrow.

Seems like a solid 10 and maybe up to 40 hit. I've seen 27 claimed a few times too and the percentage 34 as well. Whatever the number is it'll add more stress to the remaining. Russia will want to up its production of 160s
