Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

Here's a little more on OP Latitude (with HMCS Regina, MV Asterix and a CP-140) which is a combined Arctic OP with the US Alaskan Command.

A little bit farther and they will make it to Alert.

82.5018° N, 62.3481° W

Alert should be next year's stated goal of Arctic penetration. Yes, there's no docking facilities there, but if the ice has broken up enough to make the transit safe, the next AOPS could use its RHIBs and landing craft to deliver supplies ashore.

And a quick side visit to Hans Island to leave some whiskey for our Danish neighbours, of course...!

The LCVP would be a better option for going ashore in Alert, but if supplies were being transferred, it would be Alert passing things to the ship. Alert has weekly sustainment flights, as well as several other periods of major resupply (Boxtop) using C-130s and C-17s.

Other than a photo op you won't see AOPV's going to Alert to bring cargo. Better ways to do that.
