The movie is trash and attempt to discredit an excellent book.

The movie, made by a guy who lived through WW2 in Holland as a kid, has said it's a bit of a satirical anti-war film - like most of the others in the series.

I can't read Verhoeven's heart, but I suspect having seen Nazi/fascist occupation first hand, he wore different glasses on the whole "trains run on time" thing than Heinlein rather than trashing the book.
