Trump administration 2024-2028

Looks like someone should have read this article first ;)

How to Negotiate With Someone Like Trump – And Win

So, how should you negotiate effectively with someone like Trump? Many world leaders seem to believe that they must either obtain more power than him (which is theoretically correct, but close to impossible for most to achieve in the short term), ignore the power difference altogether and attempt to negotiate as equals, or just give in to avoid the pain or risk of confronting his hard tactics and suffering his retaliations. These are three basic mistakes that will send any negotiator toward failure in this context.

2. Don’t publicly make them look bad

People like Trump care about their image. Eroding their image is akin to attempting to reduce their power, which will likely invite a strong and immediate response. Yet, there are many negotiators whose approach has been based on trying to make Trump look bad. It’s critical to understand that power is not bravado. Trump will attempt to negotiate collaboratively with those like Russian president Vladimir Putin who, given the latter’s position as the head of a nuclear superpower, he doesn’t have a large power advantage over. However, he is unlikely to do the same with someone who acts like Putin but lacks the power to back it up.

Having a power advantage usually means that Trump can sustain the consequences of a conflict better or longer than the other side can. It’s naïve to expect that he will not try to restore his image by gaining one up on his counterparty, or that he will disregard his image and prioritise the deal’s economics. As such, those who make Trump – or anyone borrowing from his playbook – look bad publicly are likely to pay the price later unless they are powerful enough to avoid it.

That’s not the only take-away from that piece, though ;)

I have heard this term Maple MAGA. Who are they? Any known personalities?

Generally it is a term the Liberals have applied to the Conservatives and PP specifically trying to claim they will sell out Canada and let us be annexed.

It can also refer to those within Canada who think we should be the 51st and just bend over and join America.

Maple MAGA are Canadians who, when Trump spouts his nonsense, agree with him over their own country for a variety of reasons.

When Trump said he was imposing tariffs because of fentanyl and illegal immigrantion flooding the USA from Canada, agreed, despite Canada being negligible sources of both.

And when Trump increased tariffs on Canada for a host of made up reasons, said Canada deserved it or Canada should give the USA more concessions.

Or when American officials bemoan Canadian boycotts and not buying their booze, say Canadians are making things worse, like Canada was the instigator of this.

Or my personal favorite, Canadians who say that despite everything, say this is all happening because Trump is trying to fix Canada via external pressure and we should just give in.

Known personalities, Marlaina Smith, Kevin O'Leary

It could also apply to those who are still patriotically Canadian, but who for some reason seem infatuated with Trump, and like American MAGA believe everything he says and who are incapable of believing anything Trump does or says is wrong.

The basic definition is a Canadian who supports Trump policies and politics.

That can be further defined into sub categories of Canadians that put that type of support over their own country even if those policies are to the detriment of Canada. Like any movement or ideology there are degrees of support.

If you are talking about here on this site, there are 3 I’d classify as hard core Maple Maga and maybe one or two as soft supporters. No I will not name them. Their posting history speaks for itself.

If you are talking about in the public space? PP has been accused of it, most of the Alberta separation movement could be classified that way. Jenny Byrne and Candice Bergen with their Maga hats could also be lumped in there by critics.

Doesn't Ford's ad constitute foreign interference?

Could "MAGA Canadians" apply to CAF members who don't donate their coming back pay considering the only reason that came about was because of Trump? Blood money.

I'll see your MAGA and raise you a TDS.

...

Amazing.

It's wishful thinking believing congress or the Supreme Court is going to reign Trump in. He's just doing what he wants leaving is detractors to look at each other and yell that's not allowed.

The US is built on powerful people skating through corruption. He's civilly responsible for sexual abuse, criminally responsible for falsified business records. And here he's free to blast countries with tariffs when his little feelings are hurt.

I'll believe the US will do something about Trump when they stop withholding the Epstein files.

This is why Mike Johnson doesn't want Adelita Grijalva sworn in. She is the 218th signature required for the discharge petition to go forward. There appears to be some concern that a large number of Republican members might break ranks, and add their votes to the total. That could be the wave that turns into a tsunami in the upper house.

It was funny how many finally changed tunes when it impacted them. Noticed a few MAGA 2024 flags in the Pet area are now Canadian flags, and changed right around when the tariffs etc started to kick in.

I think that that is fair. Once they figured out what MAGA really stood for and never really included them. At least they didn’t actually vote for that and regret it after.

I always make allowance for people to learn better and then to be/do better. Mistakes are allowed.

Dear America. The world now sees the Chinese Communist Party as a more stable and honourable trade partner. The CCP. Well done.

Even Trump! :ROFLMAO:

But in all seriousness this reads as him having doubts the SCOTUS ruling is going to go his way.
