Hmmm will follow up with the folks I know (OC and SNCOs/WOs that run CSS orgs) and the CA G4 maint team but in general those are not concerns that have heard before. Not saying they don't exist just anecdotal is not always evidence. In any case if there are issues, while I can't help much, am positioned to give the info to those that can.

The problem i see with the SMP (and other new vehicles) is they are so tall, technically by our ow safety regulations, we need fall arrest gear. No one does it but the rule is there.

We had two have their power trains destroyed when troops folded cam nets instead of putting them in the box. They hung down in the gap between the cab and the bed and got caught in the axel. Now obviously that's lazy troops, however its also a pretty major failing if you ever have to crash harbour.

Yes it was reversed after I handed over command as the person who implemented it as a Maj (after convincing the Bde Comd it was a great deal) became the CO of one of the Units that had to live with it. Surprise, she thought it was great when it wasn't her problem, but apparently it sucked when it was her problem.

And, ironically, she probably got full marks for 'leading change' before promotion...

Most of our clerks were Class B, plus the Reg F CC.

One or two were class A, I think.

None of them ever deployed to the field, of course.

I know that some of the FSA/HRA types have released as for some of them, present a lengthy commute, when they had signed up to serve with their local unit.

Seems silly to make them all work in one place when everything is done digitally anyways. Minus pay sheets I suppose but im sure an emailed copy would be fine

Except for the fact you cant save things off ecn so digital pays paysheets are useless

I'm not commenting on storage capacity.

I'm commenting on the deck being over 6' in the air.

It's fine for lines of communication transport. OK for ammo when you're dumping.

But if you really need MHE for loading / unloading, then it's not an optimal platform for first line.

SharePoint is looped into ecn, so as a reservist i cant download and fill out a payment at home. Or upload and send one to my IC to sign. It has to be done via a DWAN computer which defeats half the purpose of ecn. There is also no exception to sending documents to non DND emails so new troops who dont have ecn I cant send anything to, even the welcome package ironically.

The deuce wasn't actually that tall and the step on the drop down tailgate made it pretty easy to get in. The gunner dismount on "Halt! Action!" was straight over the tailgate and not all that rough on the knees.

The Germans, OTOH, learned their lesson in the mud of Russia. That explains there undercarriages to this day.

When Brigade decided to consolidate them all in one location they essentially forced them to essentially switch units. The individual members are theoretically still in their units role, but the individual units have very limited control over them.

From their perspective this would be similar to telling an infantry soldier from a reserve unit that they now belong to a different infantry regiment. Something that is not possible without the soldiers consent in the current CAF.

We had an issue with the Bde Supt Clerk. He actually thought every clerk in the Bde worked for him, including unit clerks. He lost that argument.

So please read what I was writing. My point was and remains that consolidation is largely unnecessary since the work can be done dispersed at multiple reserve units.

That's a problem in and of itself. We routinely post CSS pers between units to make sure everyone has enough clerks and Techs. We need to get more ruthless about making workable units.

Actually modernizing the reserve pay system would help the situation a lot but we’ll likely still be using last century tech and finding work arounds well after most of us are gone…
