The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

Indeed!

People are seeing the benefits of this program and are eager to participate in making Canada safer. At this rate, there should be about a quarter of a million firearms declared by the end of March, plus what's already known in QC. That's a quarter of a million firearms ready to be removed from criminal use.

Too bad only about half will receive compensation, if that.

Too bad none of those firearms were actually possessed by a criminal.

Too bad none of those firearms had been used in any crimes in the last six years or longer.

That leaves an estimated 1.75M prohibited firearms undeclared and still "on our streets".

So, if I have four AR's, and want to see them on the form, I need to register.

What they are doing here, is if you sign up to look at your form, you have to register. Once you register, they are using your preexisting firearms and your registration to fudge the number. My four AR's are prepopulated, I'm went to see if they had anything else. So I registered. That registration and my four guns are now part of that total number they are pushing. I dare say, this was the case for many, many other owners. Just because I registered, doesn't mean I'll comply. I have zero doubt I'd receive compensation anyway.

If someone registers their firearms are they told whether they're getting compensation or not before they turn in their guns or after?

I.e you turn your guns in and then maybe you get lucky?

Yup, you take your chances. Scuttlebutt says nobody has received compensation including Cape Breton. Quebec jumped on the wagon to help the feds. I'm betting the majority of the money for confiscation goes to Quebec.

If you dont declare by March 31, you dont qualify for compensation but what happens Oct 30? Just hope that no one comes to confiscate them?

if you have restricted and don't turn them in/deactivate them by the end of october you better have a good lawyer. As i've said before, going after restricteds is an easy win for the liberals. They don't have the man power to go door to door looking for the non-restricted but it wouldn't be that hard to go after the top 20 or so restricted owners in each province so they can put on a dog and pony show about "taking guns off the street".

Tons and tons and tons of restricted firearms were created by the LPC after 2020, and they have no idea who has them.

Anyone holding onto a former NR prohib after 30 Oct is playing a dangerous game with pretty much zero pay-off.

I don't know about dangerous, but consequential perhaps. Depends on who comes and looks at what one has I suppose.

There are tons of reasons the police could show up at your house and coincidentally discover a newly prohibited firearm. Alarm call, welfare check, emergency evacuation, SWATing etc.

You are correct there are many reasons the Cops can come to my door.

Couple good videos:

I've heard of many people (on this site, friends and acquaintances, posts on SM) who own now-restricted firearms that are planning on saying nothing and locking their guns up somewhere deep in their basement and not touching it unless they need it for the zombie apocalypse.

Imagine if they received an email directly to them (ie naming them by name, and not just a wide email blast to gun owners) that says basically "we know you have a restricted firearm, turn it in before October 30th or else face legal consequences". I wonder, amongst these people, how many would fess-up and turn their guns in and how many would continue to play quiet and hope it blows over.
