Iran Super Thread- Merged

Maybe a Herc landed on top of another Herc. Not making a joke, some of those videos (if true) portray a substantial US ground force of some iteration, and a lot of helicopters.

God damn, this op had everything.

Someone more in the know than me - which is basically all of our blue crew here and half the others… What sort of considerations would go into establishing a FARP versus continuing to refuel everything in air?

Sounds like there’s gonna be a hell of a medals parade for this one. BZ to all involved.

Because of terrain where the WSO landed, they had to fly in little birds to rescue him. Over 100 pers involved. The Hercs delivering the Little Birds got stuck in the dirt. So they flew in Dash 8s behind for the Personnel extraction, leaving the assets. They wrote off at least $300M of assets to get him out. They wrote off two Hercs, four Little Birds and then lost two Reapers destroying all the kit. Incredible operation:

They could have been 295s. Possibly misidentification of Dash 8s:

Also, incredible of that WSO to scale a mountain while evading and possibly under fire, after ejection.

My guess is something like this, but it succeeded this time....

I'm still surprised at the amount of information that's released over this. Feels almost like entertainment. I wonder if the crew will get paraded around talk shows and grip and grins with Trump.

Fantastic article:

I'm a big fan of Mick Ryan and going through his book right now....

Yes - ‘You too can join up and have a chance to star in your very own version of Running Man.’
Might do wonders for recruitment.

You really think US aircrew and potential aircrew are looking at the effort and resources just expended to recover one person and worrying about their role and the training they'll get and might have to apply in the situation?

Name three other countries that can credibly claim they've got their people's backs to that degree.

Bombardier or Viking should create a meme about the good old DASH 8 coming to the rescue, with a big old Made in Canada you silly orange bugger…

None can
What the US just did was absolutely incredible - full stop.
But showing and acting with discretion and humility should be considered the path to be taken.
Otherwise crowing about your accomplishments, loudly, just gives your opponents a chance to better understand your abilities and line of thought - why give them anything? They deserve nothing.

What is the motto of JTF2 - Actions, not words?

Every little thing Iran manages to do/demonstrate gets elevated by their info ops and a bunch of commentators along for the ride. Why should the US forego the advantage?

The US isn't a discreet/humble culture. Like pretty much everyone else in the world claims to be, they too are a proud people.

(As an aside, I've always gotten a laugh out of the journalists who write articles in which they deliver the "the so-and-so are a proud people, and it would help if the US showed a little humility/genuflected/kissed their asses..." lines.)
