Iran Super Thread- Merged

On the "regime change" metric ....

I disagree, it was always hardline, but with a velvet glove, we are just seeing it's true nature.

Some other reason for this happen. It was a cargo ship inbound to Iran, not a tanker. Perhaps carrying ammo, weapons from China?
I think the way they went about is good, gave them a lot of warnings and then followed through. The message is clear, don't eff with us. I suspect the USN crews are quite happy as well, if they are going to sit in a warzone, it's way better that you can shoot back as needed and the bad guys also know you will shoot.

Meanwhile, over in Lebanon, proof once again that it only takes one idiot to ruin it for everyone ....
Happy to hear any context that mitigates the look, but it's not a good look so far.
The issue with Israel is it is more than one guy. There is systemic issues within some sects of Israels population.

Fair question and exposes the problem with making any agreement with a democratic country that can change government radically every 4-5 years.
Iran was willing to make an agreement with a prior president and must have known that something not ratified by the Senate had no durability to speak of. Presumably they got what they wanted up front.

Works both ways, though. No guarantee Iran might make would mean much.

Also a bit of a strange thing to say, especially with how much the rest of the world has been effected.

They never talk about what those exports mean domestically: higher prices are the pump.

Just like LNG exports closing the gap between domestic NG prices and higher global prices. This is great for the O&G companies. Not so much for the domestic consumer.

The US turning on Ukraine and the Budapest Memorandum is a really good question. Why would any country give up nukes after that?

Every country that actually gives up their nuke and WMD programs gets attacked after they do. Most often by the US. The only ones who haven't (North Korea and Pakistan and Israel) are either left alone or even paid off.

This is wild. I cannot vouch for the accuracy of this, but the news outlet is credible.

Mariners stranded in the Gulf have apparently been targeted by scams purporting to be Iranian officials levying tolls for transit, with requirement to pay in crypto. One of the ships shot at by the IRGC a few days ago may have been a victim of this scam.

A “pay the strait of Hormuz toll” crypto scam is just next level.

Could very possibly be, the other possibility is that the money went to one faction in the Iranian regime and not the other. A scam riding the back of a protection racket.
