I disagree, it was always hardline, but with a velvet glove, we are just seeing it's true nature.
 
Some other reason for this happen. It was a cargo ship inbound to Iran, not a tanker. Perhaps carrying ammo, weapons from China?
I think the way they went about is good, gave them a lot of warnings and then followed through. The message is clear, don't eff with us. I suspect the USN crews are quite happy as well, if they are going to sit in a warzone, it's way better that you can shoot back as needed and the bad guys also know you will shoot.
 
Meanwhile, over in Lebanon, proof once again that it only takes one idiot to ruin it for everyone ....

The issue with Israel is it is more than one guy. There is systemic issues within some sects of Israels population.
 
Fair question and exposes the problem with making any agreement with a democratic country that can change government radically every 4-5 years.
Treaties and alliances work great...until they don't. That's why nations need to look to their own defence first.

There are a few Brigades made up of orthodox Jews and they have had issues with them. The IDF is a conscription army and it reflects the deep divides within Israel.

Iran was willing to make an agreement with a prior president and must have known that something not ratified by the Senate had no durability to speak of. Presumably they got what they wanted up front.

Works both ways, though. No guarantee Iran might make would mean much.
