US to announce deal allowing Saudi Arabia a nuclear programme, reports say

The US and Saudi Arabia are expected to announce a deal that will allow the Gulf kingdom to develop a civilian nuclear programme, according to US media reports.

An announcement is expected from US President Donald Trump's administration on Wednesday, US officials were cited as saying.

The agreement could be worth billions of dollars to the US, whose companies could be involved in building a facility to produce enriched uranium, which can be used as fuel for power plants but also to make nuclear bombs.

Nuclear experts and former officials in Israel - the US's top ally in the Middle East - have voiced concern that the plan could ultimately lead to Saudi Arabia being able to develop a nuclear weapon.

So saudi arabia can enrich their own uranium, but we HAVE to do it in the USA?

Well if that isn't a load of....

There was already a coalition that assembled against this. Countries that will not follow the US adventurism into Iran may still be willing to resume/support operations against the Houthis.

Yeah but it didn’t work. The Houthis simmered down when the conflict reached a diplomatically negotiated wind down.

It will take one perfectly worded tweet to make this untenable.

For the record, the following is a parody, my comedic take on the President of the United States. It is in no way an actual quote, in part or in full, of the President of the United States.

With that out of the way,

Ahem.

"NATO needs to do more! We give everything to NATO! We help NATO in Europe, we don't need to be there! NATO needs to help in Yemen! We don't need help, but they should offer! We don't need anything NATO has but they need to do more! The United States doesn't even need the strait of Hormuz, or the Bab al Mandeb! America makes all the oil we need! The radical democrats, or dumbocrats as I call them, don't want to drill, but I was DRILL DRILL DRILL! Europe needs the Straits, Asia needs the Straits, the USA does NOT NEED IT! The only reason we are there is because Iran cannot get a nuclear weapon! We have destroyed Iran! They have no navy, they have no air force, we have destroyed their military! We have already won! But NATO needs needs to take care of the Bab al Mandeb because we help them in Europe! Without the USA there would be NO NATO! If NATO lets the Houthis win, how can they defend Greenland against the Houthis? UNACCEPTABLE!!!

Thank you for your attention to this matter."

Who joins up after that or something like that?

Which I repeat, is a parody.

Well that certainly worked well for Canada when we helped Pakistan and India develop their "peaceful nuclear program"

And just to point out that the Saudi's, thanks to a secret deal with China, already has a IRBM force in place.

Nice touch with Greenland.

What could possibly go wrong with this .
C'mon, it's not as if the IAEA and that crowd won't be keeping an eye on things -- oh, wait ....

Oil and U.S. bond yields have both spiked hard this morning. Markets are the twitchiest they’ve been in months.
They are desperate for a rate cut before Nov elections.
Can’t see that happening right now.
They are being painted into a corner right now.
  • High oil
  • High inflation
  • Lower labour participation
  • High borrowing costs
  • Falling new mortgage applications

If they actually do go nuclear and land some troops I suspect a rate hike, not a cut, will be on the books.

Landing troops, anywhere in Iran, would be an act of desperation at this point. Any sort of US KIA over 15+ would be a huge PR disaster for Trump and Administration.
How long have the Marines on the 2 Amphibious boats been floating around the ocean already? 3 months? How much longer will they be able to remain on station before returning back to port?

There are the small islands and one large one with a population centre on it, if they land troops, I suspect that will be the focus. With those islands secure, they would have a more protected logistical route to support further landings and raids.

In 1966 I might have agreed. In 2026 drones will make any small scale landings a fucking disaster quick. How many hitmarker snuff videos of marines getting FPVed can the US public take?

Related - I heard from some US commentators (most notable being Saagar Enjeti) that Congress is being informed that troops are getting less than standard care in US military hospitals, even Rammstein during this conflict. Not sure where that is coming from or what the cause could be. Were there cuts?

The landing part would be the easiest task.
Dealing with the drones would the hardest.
In between would be the entire infrastructure required to support those troops on said island(s).
Getting them the food, water, sanitation, accommodation, electricity, infrastructure, etc.

Taking the islands, will start to blind them from real time intel. Both on shipping and military logistical movements. Grabbing Qeshm (which would be a major undertaking) also puts the Iranian mainland into range of US fiberoptic drones as well. US troops will have air cover that can take out most of the high flying recce drones.

Aba Musha, Siri and lesser/Greater Tunb all have ports and airfields and are at the closest, 51km from the Iranian coast removing the majority of FPV drones as a response by the Iranians.
