They are seen as 'the little brother' to the Big 5 banks in Canada. Overwhelming Quebec centered, with some presence in Toronto and across Canada. They are the last of the 2 Quebec centered banks left over since Laurentian Bank has been carved up by National Bank and Fairstone Financial last year. Laurentian Bank was the first (and so only) bank in North America to be unionized.

Caisse Desjardins is other (and last) Quebec centered financial institution, it is not a bank but a credit union (caisses populaires).
