The US and Saudi Arabia are expected to announce a deal that will allow the Gulf kingdom to develop a civilian nuclear programme, according to US media reports.

An announcement is expected from US President Donald Trump's administration on Wednesday, US officials were cited as saying.

The agreement could be worth billions of dollars to the US, whose companies could be involved in building a facility to produce enriched uranium, which can be used as fuel for power plants but also to make nuclear bombs.

Nuclear experts and former officials in Israel - the US's top ally in the Middle East - have voiced concern that the plan could ultimately lead to Saudi Arabia being able to develop a nuclear weapon.

Another significant spike in U.S. long term treasuries so far today. Far from getting his much-demanded rate cut, I suspect Trump is steering his country to a central bank rate increase. They’re going to need to curb inflation somehow, and I don’t think it’s gonna come from their foreign or trade policy…

You know, sometimes I like to think that their is an alternative universe somewhere where Donald Trump is the new host of the Price is Right, and everyone, including him, is happier.
 
Seems to me that Bessent should be careful about insulting Canada's "couple of submarines". I remember when we had only three "clockwork mouse" submarines and regularly put holes in their aircraft carriers and cruisers in NATO exercices. Wouldn't be surprise to hear that the VIC's have done the same.

We only have four submarines ... but they only have 11 aircraft carriers. :)

Remember that Hegseth’s own mother described him as an “abuser of women”. So this is not inconsistent with his known character.

I'm not surprised in the least to see that post from him - beating people up on social media let seems like the only fight he can handle.


On a side note, maybe it's time to give our CIC officers their own distinct uniforms.

Trump was surprised when Driscoll told him how many generals and other top officers had been fired, pushed out, or passed over for promotion under Hegseth, one of the people said. Driscoll argued that the Army could not transform itself the way it needs to, because of the departure of so many leaders, this person said, adding that Trump expressed concern about the deep cuts to the Army’s senior leadership. Driscoll informed the president of his intention to resign—and by today, Driscoll was on his way out.

It's not much of an army war except air defence. However, Transformation-in-contact is a really big deal if the army wants to sort itself out for future wars. It's in mid stride and needs a lot of vision and leadership from the top if it wants to cross the finish line any day soon.
