Trump administration 2024-2028

Just like the little coward , threaten certainly, but carry through on it , though . Not likely he have to do some of the dirty work himself.
I'm not one of Carney's biggest fans but this is utterly contemptible.

If went all-in like you suggest, it would play into his game.

Most Americans aren't actually paying attention to his foolishness with Canada, because they have enough of their own problems. If we cut ties, and act irrational, we offher him an easyily spun narrative of Canada actually being "mean". Offering up a perfect political win like that to him could easily sway more Americans into the MAGA camp.

Our best bet is to continue finding other partners, and keep our responses to his provocations dignified and reasonable.

It would not be a win for him. The more he belittles us and the more we accept it the more Americans will believe what he has to say.

Do you have any idea just how much utterly routine day to day cooperation there is between Canadian and American agencies and departments that is important for the proper functioning of a lot of aspects of society, public safety, and trade? Do you know what breaking off diplomatic relations would mean?

I get you don’t like the current president, his administration, or their policies. I don’t either. But that doesn’t mean we go buy brain-polish to get the smoothest take possible on the bilateral relationship.

Most Americans aren't following his foolishness regarding Canada. That plays to our benefit, as things get more expensive in America because of his actions.

We can't beat him at the flood the zone foolishness, (pigs, wrestling, and all that) so our best play is to come across as the serious and civil ones. Anyone swayed by his bombastic foolishness is not likely someone we could win with anyway.

It would help the Democrats in the upcoming by elections.
Another round of Democrats as they are currently constituted is just more gasoline on the fires. Voters elected Trump twice because of what Democrats did and were doing.

What is needed are initiatives that support centrist Republicans who will push the "80" side of the top four or five "80/20" issues without Trump's chaotic output.

Problem is, those groups are seeing mixed results in primaries. In the Mid terms, we are as likely to see trump allies as much as moderates on the R ticket.

👍🏼

With this being the first Labor Day where gasoline was over $4 (more than twice as high as when Trump took over to make things cheaper…) Canada will head back onto the rear burner until Trump and the GOP need a kid-term Satan to rant against…

I saw diesel as high as 6.30$/gallon down in PA this weekend when we went to watch our daughter’s soccer game.

What are we going to do about it ?
I'd be content with a bit of mucking around in the bond market on the QT. Maybe a bit of coordinating with the Norwegians on their plan 80$ billion exit strategy. That would drive up their borrowing costs which in turn would drive up the value of their dollar.

Here's what Iceland did about the US flag being put over their country.

Iceland summons U.S. ambassador after Trump posts map showing island under American flag

Iceland last month voted against reopening EU membership talks in a referendum where Trump’s designs on Greenland had featured as a backdrop.

It’s silly meme from a guy who probably couldn’t teach his own feet to pull skates on, and would get winded lacing them up if he even even did. Who gives a damn?

Mean while ten year treasuries are up over 4.8% this morning. Brent’s over $98 and WTI over $93 a barrel, with tit for tat attacks continuing between the U.S. and Iran, and Saudi and the Houthis. US CPI data is due on Friday and the Fed meets on rates next Wednesday.

Trump wants to meme-LARP at being geopolitically competent, or capable of any meaningful degree of physical exertion? He can fill his boots. Everyone sees it for what it is; profound weakness in the actual policy space.

Can't out-meme maga.

But, could throw down the gauntlet and issue a challenge to the guy who posted it to man-up and strap on his skates - for real.
