Trump administration 2024-2028

Never seen Evangelion?
Not my personal flavour of nerddom; I figured they were just some generic AI-cobbled mecha. Though I wouldn’t be surprised at this point to see his social media account post pictures of him driving a Battle Mech into Tehran or the like.

Putin rode a horse and hunted shirtless for photos, but he's been trumped by Trump. I semi-seriously can't wait to see what Trump come out with next. That being said, I don't think his social media team has any need for new ideas to make him look like something he's not.

Here's what Iceland did about the US flag being put over their country.

Iceland summons U.S. ambassador after Trump posts map showing island under American flag

Iceland last month voted against reopening EU membership talks in a referendum where Trump’s designs on Greenland had featured as a backdrop.

Did he include Iceland because he doesn't know which landmass is Greenland or has his ambition expanded?

Expel diplomats because Trump posted a meme? That seems like a lot of effort to reward a troll with exactly the reaction he's looking for.
Its not one meme though, its a history of attacks against us, our leaders, and our sovereignty. Attacks the US ambassador to canada happily shares on social media.

How about we be a land with snow, as opposed to a land full of snowflakes.

Taunts only work if one reacts. Otherwise it is foolish prattling by a known bully who seems to be quite unwell, embarrassing himself in the schoolyard / global stage. Let him rant and have his tantrum. It materially changes nothing.

Problem is, those groups are seeing mixed results in primaries. In the Mid terms, we are as likely to see trump allies as much as moderates on the R ticket.
Sure. It is challenging to find Trump allies who want to upend the constitution and institutions of the US and flat-out ignore if not change laws governing immigration, though. While there might be some who want to end or severely curtail the 2A, pack the USSC, abolish the Senate, open the borders, etc, I cannot think of any offhand and their views are not frequently given mention in non-traditional media, let alone traditional media. Suppose Trump and his cronies are as corrupt as alleged by their most severe critics. I consider that is a near-zero threat or flaw compared to what some of the Democratic candidates want to do to the USA.

You realize its not real right ? Trump didn't actually hit anyone with a hockey stick.

A pig wants to wrestle, and it is interesting to observe who wants to wrestle with him. I certainly am not interested in having any part of Canadian officialdom wrestle on my behalf and thereby worsen the situation.

Carney illustrated the correct position when he said something to the effect that one of Hegseth's recent antics (the Vernon cadet picture) was below the dignity of Hegseth's office. People who profess to care about the conduct of politicians should adhere to and build on that lead.

so then, in your opinion when is it no longer a joke to be ignored? Because sometimes what a bully needs is a left hook to the jaw

If it was that simple, every single country in the world would have already done so. As it is, we seem to be one of the few standing firm. The answer to Orange Skinned lunacy is not thin-skinned pearl clutching.

Most internet trolls are not a head of state, nor are they commander in chief of the worlds most powerful military, nor have they unleashed trade wars that bully & undermine allies. Some of this troll's silly memes express expansionist ambitions that echo nonsense Russia posted 4-5 years ago about its "near abroad." With Admiral Paparo recently stumbling over himself to dismiss suggestions of direct action toward Canada as "absolutely and utterly preposterous" while simultaneously emphasizing and reaffirming that he will always follow presidential orders, Canada needs to pick a path that is neither ignoring the silly memes of a powerful fool nor launching untargeted, emotional displays of vexation (and I think this is what Canada is doing).

Iceland appears to be taking the right steps. When a foreign head of state threatens annexation, that needs to be called out and condemned. But Canada's message, while stated to the administration, needs to be directed at US voters, US business leaders, and whatever grown-up might exist in the political leadership of both parties.

I'd be content with a bit of mucking around in the bond market on the QT. Maybe a bit of coordinating with the Norwegians on their plan 80$ billion exit strategy. That would drive up their borrowing costs which in turn would drive up the value of their dollar.
Active steps to implode the US economy right now could do much to undermine Canada's standing with US voters and the remaining political grown-ups, while doing very little to help our position. Canada should limit itself to targeted, commensurate responses.

Laugh at him.

That's the one thing that he can't tolerate - being the butt of a joke.

In the old Soviet Union you'd call someone nekulturny - uncultured - as the ultimate insult. DJT is very Russian in his fragile ego and self aggrandizement. Laughing at him shows that he's not refined, no matter how much Temu gold-colored crap he glues on the walls in the White House.

Your right. We should let the Norwegians (and whoever joins with them) dump their selected 80$ billion US Treasuries without us.

The US debt has doubled every 9yrs from 10$ trillion in 2008 to 20$ trillion in 2017 to its present day value of 40$ trillion in 2026. They have made zero effects to reign in their financing costs and are on track for it to be 80$ trillion by 2035. They now pay 1$ trillion a yr in interest payments alone.

A major reason why they no longer are rated 'AAA' in the bond market.

Even with all the 'DOGE' cuts (like reducing the PS by 9%), US Federal spending continues to rise.

Devil's Advocate here (and definitely not a Trump fan):

Trump posted a static AI cartoon on Truth Social on Sept 6 showing him in a USA hockey jersey over Mark Carney with the bubble “GET UP, GOVERNOR.”

This video is a later Grok animation of that public image, adding fictional fight scenes. It was created and shared by others, not by Trump.
