Trump administration 2024-2028

I spoke with a few Americans at work yesterday. About half of whom voiced the unsolicited opinion that the mid-terms were "the first step in getting our country back".

We still need to see whether this results in a move back toward the centre.

Because, IMHO, there is just as much destruction to be wrought by the extreme left. Then again, if history has taught us anything, it's that extremism is only a problem when the people you disagree with are the ones doing it.

I wonder if the results of the election will have any effect on Americans who wish to move to Canada , or Canadians who wish to move to USA.

The democrats from Texas, Kansas, Iowa, and potentially Alaska and Mississippi may temper the more radical side of the party.

A good reason for Vance and the Republicans to push for impeachment themselves
Yes. It would be very funny if House Democrats sent articles of impeachment to the Senate as a gesture, expecting acquittal, and a bunch of Republicans surprised everyone and voted to convict. Trump supporters would be angry at levels not yet seen, but two years is a long time to settle things out among Republicans.

The safest bet is still that if the House sends articles, it means it. There aren't that many moderates capable of looking forward, and some of those have been sidelined. (One such example is Ruy Teixeira. He wrote that a danger for Democrats was success in 2026 that they interpret as a mandate to go ahead with their preferred ideas. Now we will see.)

"2026 was not simply a blue wave, it was a blue tsunami. It was an ass-kicking. It was not simply a bad midterm election, it was a Watergate level repudiation, our voters rejected our candidates" - Ted Cruz
It is probably, in view of everything the Trump administration has done and Republican-controlled Congress has not done, also the high water mark for Democrats. With the right presidential candidate they might get to 60 in the Senate (2028 is a favourable "map" year for Democrats), but that won't matter if they've already jettisoned the legislative filibuster rule (which would probably cost them anyways).

Honestly it for the most part failed as non MAGA Republicans voted Blue as a protest.

The biggest take away is that the Dem’s didn’t really win, the vote was really solely an indictment of President Trump and his administration.
Both Parties now have 2 years to find an acceptable Candidate more to the middle to appeal to voters down here like Carter and Regan did and gain the middle while ignoring the fringes.
A very good friend of mine is a cattle rancher in very rural Illinois.
A lifelong trade Republican. An extremely influential man in his industry.
Made it known well beforehand he was voting Democrat to punish MAGA and the GOP. In absolutely no way he is a Democrat or a Liberal.
I suspect millions of trad Republicans did the same. Right now it’s quite possible both Democrats and Republicans are in a position of precarious employment medium and longer term if they don’t start working for Americans without all of the weirdo ideology, and crime family levels of corruption.

I guess they've had enough eating of Shit sandwiches and decided to see what the other side of fence was offering. Even if it's only mouthwash I'm sure they, and their family/friends/wives/girlfriends will be very happy with the change.
Sure. When they air their ongoing grievances against policies and social ideas that originate squarely from progressives, they shouldn't be surprised if no-one is listening.

It won't. The Democrats ran a handful of candidates with ideas that are odious to the American centre, and overperformed expectations. The moderates have already been nervously caving to the extremists in the hope that they'll get eaten last in the primaries. They're going all-in.

At least now in the future when 'they air their ongoing grievances', the new mouthwash they've been given by the Democrats will at least leave the air around them refreshing.

I swear to god every election for the past twenty odd years has basically driven cottage prices up through the roof .

Right.

I was thinking of Gallup data less than one year ago where 40% of younger American women want to permanently leave the United States.

Compared to 19% of men in the same age group, creating a record 21-point gender gap.

Perhaps Tuesday may have narrowed that gap.

Likewise, if Tuesday's election possibly tempered the enthusiasm of some Canadians, with a LPC government , to move to the USA after America's so called "Blue Wave".
