Political impacts of Ukraine war

And the countdown to the 1st begins.

Bild: Russia may be preparing an offensive on Kherson after the ceasefire in Oleshky

Ukrainian military personnel said they had detected movements of Russian troops and equipment during a temporary ceasefire in Oleshky. They believe Russia may use the truce to prepare an offensive that could begin after November 1.

According to the Ukrainian military, Russian trucks are transporting combat units, while anti-drone nets are being installed in the industrial zone of Kakhovka. A large number of Grad multiple-launch rocket systems have reportedly been deployed in a forest near Radensk, where shelters are also being reinforced. Residents of Hola Prystan have also reported movements of Russian military trucks.

One source quoted by Bild said Russian drone units were approaching the Dnipro River and did not rule out an attempt to cross it after the ceasefire ends.

Might be why he's been so unusually quiet.
Waiting for some people to figure out that if Democrats piss him off enough he'll move himself and his enterprises and some other countries will be the beneficiary of all future products and technologies. If they take what he has now, they give up everything in his future. But, some of them are that stupid.

The above is regarding Starshield, by the way. Not Starlink.

Spacex is on U.S. government dole and large investor community, so no. Plus, it needs a huge engineering pool which is only available in U.S., China or India. China has 2 of required conditions and the added bonus that any engineering knowledge will not be protected but stolen. India only has 1 positive condition.

Pretty sure Musk can get top talent from pretty well any country he wants. If he pulled up stakes and went elsewhere, I'd wager a lot of top US talent would still seek employment in his programs.

If the US government nationalizes anything, it's going to run approximately as well as NASA - bloated, expensive, slow, lacking focus. Engineers who want to work on his projects don't have to work in their home countries if the projects are domiciled somewhere else. If Musk simply stops doing what he does, everyone loses whatever he might have done. (A few people are fond of "he didn't actually build all of that himself" rhetoric. No, he didn't, but he put it all together, whereas no-one else had done so.) If Musk keeps on doing what he does in spite of confiscation and, possibly, criminal prosecution, I doubt he's going to roll over and accept what Democrats do to him; he'll move.

[Add: "SpaceX is on US government dole" is one frame. "US government is critically dependent on SpaceX" is another.]

That's great, but my point is to draw attention to the Democrats who want to nationalize some of Musk's enterprises and punish him personally.
I think its entirely fair to personally punish the private citizen who personally ordered events that led to the deaths of dozens of Ukrainians and contravened the foreign policy of the USA. If William Boeing pulled the same shit in WW2 there would be treason charges by now.

Give it a rest. People who want to use utilitarian calculations cannot expect those calculations to be respected unless they include all the Ukrainian lives saved by Musk's rapid provision of Starlink services and the years' worth of services provided in total. Put a number on it. If you nominate "dozens", I'm just going to laugh.
