When I was serving an enthusiastic shooter advised me that there were different butt lengths on the FN C1: S, M & L.
According to him changing the butt length on the rifle made all the difference when it came to recoil.

With all due respect to many of the schemes that have been discussed on this thread reserve training depends on individual reservists volunteering to train. Give them challenging goals to aspire to and they will come out. Run them ragged with administration, that might be important to the CoC...
If memory serves First Clash was commissioned by the CAF for students at the Staff College. It was on the reading list for the Militia Command and Staff Course (now called AOC).
