    Improved Combat Uniform

Recently ran into a member wearing the new uniform (obtained via trials i believe) and got a close look. I definitely like the look of it on first impressions. While i obviously can't say anything about the quality, it appears much more practical, modern and sharper looking than the current. No...

Primary Leadership Qualification Course (PLQ) Mega thread

You guys will no-fill rather than send the wrong people? See, that's a totally foreign concept to me. Last time i saw anything close to that method was in the late 90's. Ever since then, it's been "Who's available for 13 weeks this summer? You, you and you, congratulations! You're going to be...

Primary Leadership Qualification Course (PLQ) Mega thread

Ok, well that's your experience, but i can tell you, for absolute certainty, that "no fail" policies have existed in LFCATC. Instructors were told that if a candidate failed, then it was a leadership failure, and you failed to "mentor" that individual through the item he was having difficulty...

Primary Leadership Qualification Course (PLQ) Mega thread

In a perfect world, sure, that would be the case, but the sad fact of the matter is, this is even true of Sgt/WO qualifications, just on a smaller scale. I'm sure i'm not the only one who can point out several examples of people becoming Sr NCOs in thier units who should never even have been...

Primary Leadership Qualification Course (PLQ) Mega thread

There was a time when i would have said that if you were approached by your section commander, then it's probably because someone qualified to make that decision knows you're ready. However, times have changed. And as someone said, the leadership gap is being filled by the army in a rushed...

    DP3A - Who teaches it?

Great. I was beginning to think i imagined those guys. Thanks. Will do.

    DP3A - Who teaches it?

When i did my DP3A in '04 or '05 (can't remember), the staff were all NCOs from a particular office in Gagetown, who i seem to recall were referred to as "the small arms cell". I'm not sure if their cell fell under the infantry school, or even the CTC for that matter, or if they were an amry/CF...

    Weapons modification RANT.

For what it's worth, here's what i've been getting away with in theatre. The policy on the ACOGs in my coy was in question for a while but ultimately the powers that be decided to allow them.

"The stuff the army issues is useless" and "no non-issue kit over seas!"

...what's that saying? Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 8?

"The stuff the army issues is useless" and "no non-issue kit over seas!"

But when it's one's own life that's possibly being put at risk by said equipment, that's not satisfactory, thus people feel inclined to break the rules.

This super armour will solve all the CF's problems (or Revenge of the Bear Suit)

First problem i can see with this suit is that it looks very flimsy - like it was fashioned out of old hockey gear or something. Second thing is that it's a series of independant/unconnected plates hung from various parts of his body. That will protect those parts of his body from frag but it...

Tac Vest does not make the grade.

Ah, i can see where the confusion is. Yeah, i should have stated that i intend to keep the plates in the flak vest and just use the plate carrier only as a molle platform over top. Fortunately this piece of kit actually fits well over my flak vest/plates. It's a good thing too becuase the...

"The stuff the army issues is useless" and "no non-issue kit over seas!"

A happy middle ground may be a limited annual clothing allowance and a list of approved off the shelf manufacturers. That should be enough to accomodate the "everyone is different, and everybody's kit must therefore be different" camp, while also keeping a tight leash on what people buy/use. Or...

Tac Vest does not make the grade.

No i won't, because i won't be wearing it in the turret. Load carrying equipment goes in the bustle racks. Only frag vests/plates are worn in the turret. How about posting a pic??
