Olympics 2024 (rename from CAN Drone Recce of NZ Soccer Practice)

Fingers always crossed, and it ONLY takes a very few idiots to be idiotic.

Generally, though, if there were even the slightest issues with the boxer's gender, I suspect a government like Algeria's (where "The constitution declares Islam to be the state religion and prohibits state institutions from behaving in a manner that infringes on Islamic morals" and has a population that's around 98% Muslim) or the country's Olympic committee wouldn't have even allowed her on the team - at the very least - much less back her to the hilt on this one so far.

The latest: Khelif's apparently coming home with some medal at this point ....

Islam can be accepting of the LGBTQ+ 🌈.

I have and will be spending a considerable about of time in Turkey for the next while, and they seem to be very at ease about the whole thing.

While defiantly not as accepting as the west, they aren't totally behind the time either. I mean they aren't stoning them or throwing them off buildings.

Türkiye is constitutionally a secular country. Erdogan’s govt may have pushed it more to the religious side, but religion and state are separate.

There IS a range, for sure, with places like Saudi being at the least-accepting end of the spectrum (BTW, enjoy Turkey while you're there).

Based on your links, Algeria strikes me as sitting somewhere between the looser Turkish and harsher Saudi end of the scale. According to one NGO source (highlights mine) ....

... transgender is a no-no, and if that's the case, my guess is that Algeria wouldn't be likely to have anyone dealing with such issues on any national team.

You might be right, I also know that high level sports will do a lot of shady stuff and allow things that wouldn't normally be allowed for the sake of a win.

Islam is no different than any other religion. Practitioners will bend the rules to their advantage. The higher up you are, the more you can bend the rules. Otherwise there would be no Man Love Thursday's.😉

Sure, but in this case, it's only the dodgy IBA that's an issue, and only became an issue after she beat an unbeaten Russian fighter (not before, when they sanctioned the fight). They won't even say what test they did, and none of the other boxing federations, the Algerian boxing federation or the IOC have an issue wit hit.

Sometimes the majority isn't right, but don't think this is one of those times. When a boxing organization is too corrupt for other boxing organizations that's pretty big red flag.

That caught my eye, too. As others smarter than me have said in another thread ....
Ruzzia gonna Ruzz…

I really don't care this much. I didn't like the Olympics before, and I still don't.

It's bread and circuses.

Watched Canada get Gold in the Hammer Throw, and Ukraine get Gold and Bronze in Women’s High Jump.

The hammer throw guy looks about exactly what you’d expect a hammer throw guy to look like. Good on him for the win!

His first throw was almost the OR. I think he demoralized the other competitors with the 84m toss on the number one throw of the match.
