Trump administration 2024-2028

I believe there's a precedent that would invalidate that defence.
Not if the President has immunity for “official acts”, routinely ignores the courts and the Constitution and hands out pardons like candy.

Then, if the Dems manage to win an election, any attempts at holding the last administration to account for criminal acts will be decried as “politicization” and “weaponization” of the courts, prosecution, DoJ, etc.

I’m very pessimistic about where things are heading down there.

A much longer version of DeSantis' roundtable in which he made comments similar to this a few times

"We need to focus on our Florida residents. And focus on, in this case, Florida homeowners, particularly our homesteaded homeowners, and we need to focus the relief there," DeSantis said. "I want Canadian tourists and Brazilian tourists subsidizing the state (through sales taxes) and making it so Florida residents pay less taxes. I don't want to give Canadians a tax cut."

It starts with the people with funny, foreign names and skin that doesn’t look the same. People who weren’t born in the U.S., people who can rightly or wrongly be accused of some offence. People who don’t get any sympathy from Trump’s base. Those offences will gradually get smaller. The names will start getting more familiar sounding and the people will start to look more like you or me. It’s the creeping incrementalism of autocracy. What is normalized against a purported foreign gang member today will take a bit of time to normalize against political dissidents, but that’s the direction the trajectory heads if left to continue.

The Supreme Court will certainly rule against any suspension of Habeas Corpus. The camel will keep sticking its nose under the tent flap looking for a way in. Article 1 of the constitution guarantees Habeas Corpus, but leaves exceptions for “unless when in cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it.” The administration’s use of the Alien Enemies Act - which has thus far been quashed in court - shows their willingness to torture and abuse this kind of terminology. I expect they’ll keep trying.

They might have funny sounding names but they look pretty white, and are apparently oh-so-persecuted by their government that Trump felt that Afrikaners deserved special consideration. Everybody else can apparently go to hell.

I took a quite scan of the EO list to find this. Boy, he has a hard-on for a number of law firms.

Imagine this conversation coming from a Premier in Canada, especially BC where on top of property taxes Respect and Reconciliation taxes paid by homeowners are “currently voluntary.”

By his logic, then electricity to run said TV should be free.

Can't hold an election under those conditions.
I wonder if he will try to engineer an argument that they simply can't hold mid-term elections while the country is 'under invasion'. Since the Constitution and courts are only playthings for him . . .

Wouldn't put it past him.

Even during the war, in 1944, they had a presidential election.

No because it’s a military to military transfer.
And Boeing…. WTF are you doing lads. Get that job done!

Won’t be any use to him while in office, but that’s a hell of a gift from a foreign state to someone possessed of immense vanity.

Not to mention helping feed all those "why is he worth so much more after being president?" memes, right?

I gather the teapot of the rage du jour is the about-to-be-former Qatari aircraft that is to be an interim/alternative/backup aircraft when one of the primary VC-25As is in maintenance, and that the rage stems mostly from the proposed eventual transfer to the presidential library foundation?

That is less remarkable than the revelation that replacement aircraft ordered in 2017 are unlikely to enter service until 2035, by the manufacturer's (Boeing) admission.

A bona fide requirement is to be filled in short order, which limits options. What are the options? If the eventual transfer to the foundation were shorn, would it be acceptable?
